Politburo member and Standing Committee Secretary Tran Cam Tu held talks with Cai Qi, Politburo Standing Committee member, Secretary of the Secretariat, and Chief of the Central Office of the Communist Party of China, on the evening of April 14.
Permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu affirmed that the visit of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, along with the visit of General Secretary To Lam to China in August 2024, will continue to create important momentum and new breakthroughs to continuously deepen and strengthen the relationship between the two Parties and two countries in the new era of development.
Developing sustainable, long-term relations, continuously strengthening political trust, and expanding and deepening substantive cooperation with China is a consistent policy, an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in Vietnam's independent, self-reliant, multilateral, and diversified foreign policy.
Mr. Thai Ky emphasized that the fact that General Secretary and President Xi Jinping chose Vietnam as the first country to visit in 2025 demonstrates the importance China places on Vietnam and the Vietnam-China relationship. China supports Vietnam in successfully achieving its goals and plans; and wishes Vietnam success in organizing the 14th National Congress.
He expressed confidence that the visit of General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping would create a positive atmosphere for high-level, high-quality bilateral cooperation.
During the talks, both sides highly appreciated the achievements in the development of relations between the two Parties and the two countries in recent times, with many outstanding highlights in line with the "six more" orientation.
In particular, cooperation through the Party channel has truly played a strategic guiding role in promptly disseminating and effectively implementing high-level common understandings, promoting the development of relations between the two Parties and two countries to a new level.
Both sides expressed pleasure at the positive results of the high-level talks between General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, especially the fact that the two leaders reached many important common understandings on major directions and measures to further deepen and promote the sustainable development of the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Shared Future Community, which is of strategic significance.
Both sides agreed on a number of directions and measures from the Party channel perspective to implement the guiding spirit and strategic orientation of the two General Secretaries regarding the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries in the new period.
The two countries need to maintain regular exchanges and contacts between high-level leaders of the two Parties through flexible forms to promptly guide strategic development and strengthen relations. They should enhance the sharing, consultation, and learning of each other's ideas, theories, and experiences, and continue to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the development of a cooperation plan between the two Parties and the successful organization of the special Theoretical Seminar between the two Parties.
Both sides agreed to implement annual meetings between the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China; mechanisms for inter-parliamentary exchange and cooperation, between the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; and to effectively promote the coordinating role of the Steering Committee for Bilateral Cooperation, and to exchange strategic views on diplomacy, defense, and public security at the ministerial level.
Furthermore, it is essential to strongly promote substantive cooperation that better serves the interests of the people of both countries. Vietnam and China need to coordinate well in celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, promote people-to-people exchanges, and consolidate a "more solid social foundation"...
Both sides agreed on the need to strictly adhere to the high-level common understanding in resolving maritime issues. Mr. Tran Cam Tu proposed that both sides respect each other's legitimate interests, in accordance with international law, and strive to better control and resolve disagreements at sea through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), maintaining a peaceful and stable environment in the South China Sea and the region.
