The meeting between Putin and Biden could be a nightmare for Ukraine.
The Russia-US summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden could turn into a "nightmare" for Ukraine, declared political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko, Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics.

"In this situation, there is only one question - will the United States order Ukraine to implement the Minsk agreements, or will they order it to continue simulating the implementation process?" - expert Bondarenko commented.
According to this political scientist, the extent to which Biden will be determined to demand that Ukraine implement the agreements depends on how well he manages to de-escalate the tense situation with Putin.
As a result of the bilateral summit, Washington may set a deadline for Kyiv to implement the agreements, the political scientist continued.
"It would be a nightmare for the Ukrainian authorities if Washington were to start forcing Kyiv to comply with the Minsk agreements," Bondarenko emphasized.
At the same time, expert Bondarenko added that if Ukraine is forced to implement the Minsk agreements in their current form, Kyiv may establish closer ties with Britain and "ignore the US position," taking steps according to London's wishes rather than Washington's, and creating regional blocs, for example with the participation of Türkiye.
"However, under any circumstances and in any scenario, what awaits us is the fate of a non-sovereign state, manipulated for the benefit of powerful 'players.' To avoid being manipulated and controlled, we need to become strong and mature ourselves," the Ukrainian expert concluded.
The Minsk Agreements were developed during negotiations in Minsk between Vladimir Putin and former French President Francois Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and former Ukrainian leader Piotr Poroshenko. The document was signed on September 5, 2014, and subsequently amended on February 12, 2015.
