The surplus crisis at Stamford Bridge.

(Baonghean.vn) - Chelsea's successful loan of Kovacic from Real Madrid has made the team's midfield even more crowded.

After numerous negotiation efforts, The Blues have received the approval of Real Madrid regarding midfielder Kovacic. According to the agreement between the two parties, the Croatian player will move to Chelsea on a one-year loan deal.

The arrival of Kovacic will, in theory, give manager Sarri more options and strengthen Chelsea's midfield, at least compared to last season.

Objectively speaking, the former Inter Milan player is a quality central midfielder. Real Madrid's refusal to sell Kovacic outright is clear evidence of this (the Bernabeu club sees Kovacic as a potential replacement for Modric in the near future).

But everything has two sides. It remains to be seen whether the midfielder born in 1994 will be successful at Chelsea. However, with his arrival at Stamford Bridge, Kovacic has pushed Chelsea into a surplus of talent.

Currently, The Blues possess a host of quality central midfielders. Besides Kante, there are Fabregas, Dinkwater, Bakayoko, Barkley, Jorginho, Musonda, and Loftus-Cheek… Roughly speaking, there are nearly a dozen players whose forte is playing in the central midfield position.

This is too many, because in an official match, a coach can only use 2-3 central midfielders in the starting lineup (depending on the formation).

Therefore, the competition for a place in Chelsea's midfield, or more specifically, the central midfield position, is extremely fierce. Leaving young players like Musonda and Loftus-Cheek on the bench is fine, but neglecting stars like Kante, Jorginho, Fabregas, and Kovacic is a major problem. Not to mention, players like Bakayoko and Barkley both have very strong personalities.

If they aren't given the opportunity they deserve, the dressing room at Stamford Bridge can easily become tense. Player dissatisfaction leading to internal conflict is a common occurrence in professional football.

Clearly, manager Sarri is facing an extremely difficult dilemma that will affect Chelsea's success or failure this season.

In fact, Chelsea's management had anticipated the consequences of an oversupply of midfielders. Recently, alongside the signings of Jorginho and Kovacic, the Stamford Bridge club has also been continuously offering for sale players who are not in manager Sarri's plans.

Unfortunately, to this day, no team has been willing to pay to bring players like Bakayoko and Dinkwater away from Stamford Bridge.

That's why they say, anything in excess is never good.
