UPU International Letter Writing Competition 2026: Connecting People in the Digital Age
The 55th UPU Letter Writing Competition in Vietnam in 2026 will have the theme "Connecting People in the Digital Age". This is the 38th time the competition has been held in Vietnam.
The UPU Letter Writing Contest 2026 has been launched nationwide.
On December 19th, at Chu Van An Secondary School in Tay Ho District, Hanoi, the official launching ceremony for the 55th UPU Letter Writing Competition 2026 took place.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training, the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Vietnam Writers Association, the Vietnam Post Corporation, and the Youth Pioneer and Children's Newspaper.
This is the 38th time the competition has been held in Vietnam, continuing its journey of connecting students with global issues.
Theme for the 55th UPU Letter Writing Competition 2026
The theme for the 2026 UPU Letter Writing Competition is: “Write a letter to a friend explaining why human connection is essential in the digital world.”
English: "Write a letter to a friend about why human connection matters in a digital world".
With this message, the organizers hope that students will reflect on the value of sharing, empathy, and human connection in the context of increasingly rapid digital technology development.
Each year, the Universal Postal Union selects a theme rich in humanistic meaning, reflecting the prominent issues of modern society.
By participating in the UPU letter writing competition, students not only hone their writing skills but also have the opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings, and perspectives on the changes in the world, thereby fostering civic responsibility and compassion.
Rules for participating in the UPU letter writing competition in Vietnam.
According to the regulations, Vietnamese students aged 9 to 15 can participate in the competition. The UPU letter must be handwritten, no more than 800 words, presented on one side of the paper, placed in a stamped envelope, and sent by post.
The deadline for submissions is from December 19, 2025 to March 5, 2026, based on the postmark. Submissions should be sent to the Youth Pioneer and Children's Newspaper in Hanoi.
Award ceremony for the 54th UPU Letter Writing Competition.
During the launch ceremony, the organizing committee awarded the second prize in the 54th UPU International Letter Writing Competition 2025 to Pham Doan Minh Khue, a student from Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted in Da Nang City. Her letter, on the theme of protecting the ocean, impressed the judges with its fresh approach and sincere emotions.
With Minh Khue's award, Vietnamese students have won an international prize for the 19th time in 37 years of participating in the UPU letter writing competition. This result demonstrates the enduring vitality of this meaningful competition and affirms the creativity, sensitivity, and critical thinking abilities of Vietnamese students in addressing global issues.
