Cuong DuyC: From top student to runner-up in Hanoi Singing Contest 2024
Having just graduated as valedictorian from Thang Long University, young singer Cuong DuyC won the runner-up prize in the light music category at the Hanoi Singing Contest, marking an important milestone on his path to pursuing a professional music career.
An impressive double achievement.
Young singer Cuong DuyC (real name Nguyen Van Viet Cuong) recently won the runner-up title in the light music category at the "Hanoi Singing Contest". This achievement comes right after he graduated as valedictorian from the Applied Music Department of Thang Long University in 2024.
Born in 2002, Cuong DuyC not only achieved a bachelor's degree but also successfully passed the entrance exam for the Master's program in Performing Arts at the university, under the guidance of Associate Professor, Doctor, Meritorious Artist Tran Ngoc Lan. His solid academic foundation is considered a crucial stepping stone for his career.
Before achieving success at "Hanoi Singing Contest," Cuong DuyC persistently tried his luck in many major music competitions such as Vietnam Idol, The Voice, and Talent Rendezvous. He even reached the audition round of Vietnam Idol 2023, performing in front of the three judges My Tam, Huy Tuan, and Quang Dung.
The journey from social media to the professional stage.
Coming from a family with no professional artistic tradition, with parents working in garment making and online sales, Cuong DuyC did not have the financial means to pursue his passion. However, he was nurtured with a love for music from a young age while living with his maternal grandparents, who performed traditional Vietnamese folk singing.
By the time he was in 11th grade, Cuong DuyC decided to seriously pursue an artistic career and received support from his family. He started building personal channels on TikTok and YouTube, posting videos covering ballad songs. Many of his videos attracted millions of views, making him known for his bright and expressive tenor voice.
The role of the mentor
A crucial turning point in Cuong DuyC's career was the mentorship of lecturer Nguyen Duc Quang, who is also his uncle. Mr. Quang directly taught and guided him in pursuing the light music - ballad style, and trained him in essential skills such as vocal technique and performance style in a professional environment at Thang Long University.
Sharing his thoughts on the new achievement, Cuong DuyC expressed his gratitude: "This achievement is the result of a long process of studying and hard work. I especially thank Mr. Nguyen Duc Quang - who has trusted, guided, and supported me from the very beginning. Without his guidance, it would have been difficult for me to stay on the right path and persevere until today."
The runner-up prize in the "Hanoi Singing Contest" is an initial recognition of Cuong DuyC's tireless efforts. This serves as both motivation and a challenge for him to continue honing his skills and preparing for more serious musical projects in the future.
