(Baonghean.vn) - On the first day of operation, the Veterans Association of Thanh Giang commune (Thanh Chuong) planted more than 35 thousand reeds on the bank of Lam river passing through the commune.

Faced with the increasingly eroding Lam River bank, the Thanh Giang Commune Veterans Association held a meeting and decided to plant reeds to prevent erosion and landslides. To kick off the campaign, on the morning of March 31, nearly 100 members from two branches (Binh Ngo and Lam Dinh) planted 35,000 trees.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dong, Chairman of the Thanh Giang Commune Veterans Association, said: Realizing that reed is an easy-to-grow plant that can withstand flooding conditions and is very suitable for planting along river banks, the Association unanimously chose to plant it to prevent landslides and at the same time contribute to environmental protection.
