Former football legend Van Sy Chi has passed away.
(Baonghean.vn) - Former football legend Van Sy Chi was one of the most famous strikers of the Army team and the Vietnamese national team in the 1960s and 1970s.
On March 21st, former football star Van Sy Chi passed away in his hometown of Nghe An, at the age of 80.

Mr. Van Sy Chi was born on May 15, 1939, in Hoang Mai, Nghe An. He is the father of several prominent Vietnamese football players: Van Sy Ngoc, Van Sy Hung, Van Sy Son, and Van Sy Thuy.
His children are all successful professional footballers, having played for their hometown team, Song Lam Nghe An, for many years. Most notably, Van Sy Thuy was at the peak of his career, when the former striker won the top scorer award in the A1 National Championship.

His eldest son, Van Sy Hung, played for the Vietnamese national team for many years, was part of the golden generation (along with Hong Son, Huynh Duc, Minh Quang...), and was admired by many fans nationwide.
In 1958, Van Sy Chi enlisted in the army and played amateur football in the 335th Division. In 1959, after the all-army tournament, Van Sy Chi was called back to play for The Cong. In his first match wearing the number 10 jersey, Van Sy Chi scored 4 out of 5 goals in the The Cong - General Department of Post and Telecommunications match. From then on, the number 10 jersey was associated with the name Van Sy Chi until he left The Cong.

In the late 1960s, Van Sy Chi was assigned to Military Region 3. In 1971, at the age of 37, he returned to play for Thanh Hoa. In 1991, the entire Van family moved to Nghe An. During his lifetime, former football star Van Sy Chi wore the number 10 jersey and played as a forward. He was known for his intelligent, agile playing style and innate football talent.
Since 1996, when SLNA began developing its youth training program, former football star Van Sy Chi transferred to work in youth training at SLNA Club and made many significant contributions to the province's football movement.
Upon receiving the sad news, former football legends and fans across the country sent their condolences to the family of Mr. Van Sy Chi.
