Former Director of Health Department and some officials in Son La were expelled from the Party.
The Standing Committee of Son La Provincial Party Committee has expelled Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim An - former Director of the Department of Health and a number of officials from the Party due to their involvement in violations in the implementation of the medical equipment procurement package.
On May 24, the Son La Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee announced the results of the inspection and consideration of disciplinary action against party members who violated regulations related to the implementation of the 2019 medical equipment procurement package.

According to the announcement, in 2020, after the authorities discovered violations in the implementation of the procurement package at the Department of Health, the Standing Committee of Son La Provincial Party Committee directed an inspection of signs of violations against 8 party members related to the organization of the implementation of the package.
Through inspection, the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Commission found signs of law violations by individuals. It then issued a document requesting the provincial authorities to direct consideration according to regulations.
During the investigation, Son La Provincial Police prosecuted Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim An - former Director of the Provincial Department of Health for "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences". Mr. Sa Van Khuyen - former Deputy Director of the Department of Health and 2 other former officials were also temporarily detained.
The Provincial Party Standing Committee expelled Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim An and Mr. Sa Van Khuyen from the Party for not performing their duties properly and for lax management, allowing many cadres and civil servants to be disciplined and prosecuted.
The Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Commission also expelled from the Party Ms. Bui Thi Hoa - former Head of the Financial Planning Department, Department of Health; Mr. Mai Anh Tuan - former specialist of the Department of Health for intentionally committing prohibited acts in bidding.

In addition to the above officials, Son La province has also disciplined Mr. Le Hong Minh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee with a Party reprimand. The Prime Minister also disciplined Mr. Minh with a reprimand.
Two officials of the Office of the People's Committee of Son La province, Mr. Vu Ngoc Hai and Mr. Le Tien Quy, were disciplined with warnings by the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee.
Previously, in February and March, Son La Provincial Police prosecuted and detained Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim An and 3 former leaders and officials of the Department of Health, and Bui Thi Thu, Director of Hung Phat Company; Ta Ngoc Chuc, General Director of Global Investment and Appraisal Joint Stock Company, and Hoang Vu Quyen, an employee of Vietnam Medical Equipment and Technology Company Limited, for the crimes of "Violating bidding regulations causing serious consequences" and "Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences".
Ms. An and 6 defendants were determined to have committed violations when implementing the bidding package for purchasing medical equipment at commune and grassroots levels. Many lists of goods and medical equipment related to the case were not consistent with the lists in the bidding documents, bidding documents and signed contracts, causing losses to the State budget./.
