Former Arsenal star dies in traffic accident.

According toMarcaThe former striker, born in 1983, could not be saved after a traffic accident in his hometown of Utrera on the morning of June 1st (Spanish time).

Reyes died while driving on the A-376 highway connecting his hometown of Utrera and Seville. The accident occurred at 11:40 a.m. on June 1st. The car Reyes was driving veered off the highway and was engulfed in flames.

Sevilla, Reyes' former club, posted an announcement on social media about the Spanish striker's death, stating: "We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved striker Jose Reyes in a traffic accident. Rest in peace."

Reyes was the youngest player in Sevilla's history when he made his debut for the club at the age of 16. Four years later, he moved to Arsenal for £17 million in January 2004.

Reyes won the Premier League title with Arsenal in his first season. He also made history in England's top league as the first Spanish player to win the championship. Reyes spent three years with Arsenal, winning the FA Cup, the Community Shield, and finishing as runner-up in the 2006 Champions League.

In the 2006/07 season, Reyes moved to Real Madrid on loan. He played a key role in Real's La Liga winning campaign. Afterward, Reyes joined Atletico Madrid and played for them from 2007 to 2011, but did not win many significant titles.

Reyes moved through Espanyol, Benfica, Cordoba, and a few smaller clubs before joining Extremadura in January 2019 to reunite with former teammate Diego Capel.

While playing for the Spanish national team, Reyes played 21 matches and scored 4 goals.
