Former German Chancellor calls for negotiations with Russia on Ukraine.
Former German Chancellor Schroeder said that those who believe Russia can be defeated should remember history.

According to RIA Novosti on September 22, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder called for negotiations with Russia regarding the conflict in Ukraine, while advising those who believe a military victory against Russia to "look at history." "I advise all those who believe in victory against Russia to look at history from Napoleon to Hitler, who all failed in that goal," the Welt newspaper quoted former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder as saying.
Gerhard Schroder also clarified that the most realistic scenario for achieving peace in the Ukrainian conflict is to hold negotiations and reach a compromise with Russia.
Schroder said: “This war will have to end through negotiations. In any case, this issue cannot be resolved militarily. We will need to reach compromises.”
According to the former German Chancellor, the West is ignoring Russia's legitimate security interests and underestimating the potential for escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
Schroder issued a warning: "Germany needs to act with particular caution and constructively in light of the history of World War II and the crimes committed in the name of Germany."
In September 2024, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia was not rejecting negotiations with Ukraine, but future talks should be held on the basis of the preliminary agreements reached in Istanbul, Türkiye, in 2022.
