Former German Chancellor says what 'must be done' with Russia
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed the need to take Russia's interests into account in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
"Considering Russia's interests is imperative," Merkel declared.
The former German government leader also dismissed criticisms related to the Nord Stream 2 project, asserting that all decisions should be considered within the historical context in which they were made.
"Remember that time. And I still advise those who have different views not to rush to the conclusion that we made a wrong decision back then. At least, I don't accept that for myself," Merkel concluded.
Previously, the former German Chancellor had called for the use of diplomatic means to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, while also expressing support for the proposed increase in Germany's military budget currently being discussed by German politicians.
