Former German Chancellor says 'must do' with Russia
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel stressed the need to take Russia's interests into account in an interview with the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung.
"It is imperative to take into account Russia's interests," Merkel said.
The former German government leader also rejected criticism regarding the Nord Stream 2 project, asserting that all decisions need to be considered in the historical context in which they are made.
"Remember that moment. And I still advise those who have a different opinion not to rush to assert that we made the wrong decision at that time. At least, I do not accept that for myself," Ms. Merkel concluded.
Previously, the former German Chancellor called for using diplomatic channels to resolve the Ukraine conflict, and expressed support for the proposal to increase Germany's military budget that is being discussed by the country's politicians.
