The Belgian federal prosecutor's office confirmed on October 27 that the suspect arrested by Irish police on the morning of October 26 was the driver who transported the 39 victims.

On the morning of October 26, a 23-year-old Northern Irish driver was arrested by the police of the Republic of Ireland at Dublin port. While the British or Irish authorities have yet to release official information about the cause of the incident, on the evening of October 27, the spokesman for the Belgian Federal Prosecutor, Eric van der Sypt, confirmed that the person arrested was the driver who transported the container containing the 39 dead victims to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge before the container was dismantled and transported by sea to the UK.

According to Mr. Eric van der Sypt, immediately after the container truck containing 39 victims was discovered in the UK, the Belgian side opened an investigation and quickly identified the driver who brought the container to the port of Zeebrugge on October 23. Immediately after that, a European arrest warrant was issued and on the morning of October 26, the driver was arrested at Dublin port in the Republic of Ireland.

The arrest of this suspect is considered a major turning point in the investigation because this person can provide extremely important information related to the route of the container containing the victims. According to the representative of the Belgian Prosecutor's Office, it is not yet clear whether this driver knew that the container contained 39 victims or not, and the time when the victims may have entered the container.

There is only one confirmed piece of information, which is that the driver admitted to being in France last week and transported the container from France to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge via Lille or Dunkirk, which is just over 100km from the Belgian port./.
