(Baonghean.vn) - If a few months ago, the price of shrimp fluctuated from 600,000 - 700,000 VND/kg, now it has nearly doubled, ranging from 1.1 - 1.2 million VND/kg.

Shrimp is one of the famous seafood specialties of Nghe An, produced in large quantities in the districts.Dien Chau, Cua Lo, Quynh Luu. This is a valuable specialty, favored by the market, but currently the productionshrimpare facing many difficulties.

Ms. Dao Kim Oanh, a shrimp producer in Dien Ngoc commune, Dien Chau district, said: For the past 3 months, shrimp production has been stagnant due to a serious shortage of raw materials. Previously, each trip back from the sea, I imported 1.5 - 2 tons of fresh shrimp to make shrimp, but now I can only import 2 - 3 quintals.

That is also the common mood of shrimp producers in Dien Chau district at the present time. People said that this year, seafood fishing has encountered many difficulties, the amount of fresh shrimp at sea is decreasing. In September and October, many storms appeared, so going to sea was delayed, "shortage is even more shortage".

If any household produces shrimp and needs a large amount of fresh shrimp, the input cost will be very high.

Due to lack of raw materials and high input costs, some households are unable to survive and have had to temporarily stop production. Other establishments are operating at a low level, cutting about 50% of their regular workforce.

Faced with these difficulties, the price of finished shrimp on the market has now increased to a record high. For shrimp production using shrimp pellets, the price has increased from 600,000 VND/kg to 1.1 - 1.2 million VND/kg. For penaeid shrimp, the price has now reached over 2 million VND/kg. However, this type of shrimp is rarely produced as shrimp because of its high cost.

Despite facing many difficulties, according to the forecast of coastal people, in the coming time when the weather is stable, boats will simultaneously go out to sea again, the output of seafood, including fresh shrimp, will increase.

Peeled shrimp are produced all year round, but the main season is from April to September because the source of sea shrimp is very abundant. The shrimp selected for peeled shrimp must be fresh and uniform. Thanks to the development of the peeled shrimp processing industry, nearly 25,000 tons of fresh shrimp are consumed by fishermen each year. In addition, shrimp are also imported from other districts such as Quynh Luu, Nghi Loc, Cua Lo... Currently, in Dien Chau, there are about 150 households making peeled shrimp, of which 20 establishments specialize in purchasing and producing peeled shrimp concentrated in the two communes of Dien Ngoc and Dien Bich. The annual output of peeled shrimp in Dien Chau is 22 tons/year, bringing in a value of about 14 billion VND. Peeled shrimp has been selected by the People's Committee of Dien Chau district as one of the local OCOP products.
