The 4th Congress of Representatives of Ethnic Minorities in Ky Son District

The congress was held this morning (June 26) with the theme "Unity - Innovation - Leveraging advantages and potential for integration and sustainable development".

Attending the congress were comrades: Vi Hoè - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Ky Son district; representatives of the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee, leaders of Noong Het district (Laos), and 119 outstanding delegates representing ethnic minority people throughout the district.

Ky Son is a mountainous, high-altitude border district, one of the 74 poorest districts in the country, and is eligible for the Government's 30a program and policies. Ky Son has an area of ​​2,094.84 km².2(the second largest district in Nghe An province), the terrain is rugged and mountainous with steep slopes (over 98% is hilly and mountainous, only over 1% is flat land). The district borders four districts belonging to three provinces of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, with a border length of over 203.409 km, making it one of the districts with the longest border in the country.

The total population of the district is 83,480 people, comprising five main ethnic groups: the Khơ Mú ethnic group has 30,992 people, accounting for 37.13%; the Mông ethnic group has 28,621 people, accounting for 34.28%; the Thái ethnic group has 21,095 people, accounting for 25.27%; and the Kinh and Hoa ethnic groups have 2,772 people, accounting for 3.32%... The lives of the people are still fraught with difficulties.

Over the years, the Party and the State have continued to implement many policies and guidelines prioritizing mountainous areas and ethnic minorities in the fields of economy, culture and society, and national defense and security, such as: National target programs for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas; building new rural areas and sustainable poverty reduction.

Through various programs and investment projects in infrastructure development, socio-economic development, poverty alleviation, and new rural construction, the district's overall appearance has been transformed. The economy has gradually grown significantly, infrastructure has been strengthened, many welfare facilities have been built, and the new rural construction movement has achieved many positive results.

The fields of education, healthcare, population, and culture have seen many positive changes. Political security is stable, and social order and safety are ensured. The people of ethnic minorities in the district have absolute trust in the leadership and guidance of the Party committee, government, Fatherland Front, and various departments and organizations within the political system.

At the congress, many heartfelt opinions from ethnic minority people in Ky Son district were shared, along with valuable lessons learned in economic development linked to security and national defense, promoting the role of influential figures in the community, and strengthening national unity. Some opinions also proposed and recommended policies to encourage and support ethnic minority people in the area to continue to advance in all fields.

At the congress, the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee awarded 10 individuals for their outstanding achievements in ethnic affairs work during the 2019-2024 period. The District People's Committee also awarded 11 collectives and 11 individuals from ethnic minority groups for their excellent achievements in the past period.

The congress elected 30 outstanding delegates representing over 80,000 people from ethnic minority groups in Ky Son district to attend the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of Nghe An province.
