The 4th Congress of Representatives of Ethnic Minorities in Quy Chau District

On the afternoon of June 13th, Quy Chau district held its 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives for the 2024-2029 term.

Attending the congress were comrades: Phan Thanh Đoài - Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Department; Quế Thị Trâm Ngọc - Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee, Provincial People's Council; Lục Thị Liên - Deputy Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Committee, Provincial People's Council; Lương Văn Khánh - Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Nghe An province; representatives of the district leadership along with more than 150 delegates representing over 49,000 ethnic minority people in the district.

Throughout the past term, ethnic affairs have consistently been identified by Party committees and authorities from the district to the grassroots level as a regular task of the political system, contributing to the promotion of socio-economic development in the district. Growth rates increased from 8.9% in 2019 to 9.1% in 2023, and per capita income increased from 25.9 million VND in 2019 to 34.2 million VND in 2023. The poverty rate gradually decreased from 42.04% at the end of 2021 to 32.37% at the end of 2023, and the people's living standards improved significantly.

Infrastructure development has received significant investment; to date, roads leading to the centers of all communes have been paved, 12 out of 12 communes have access to the national power grid, 100% of households use electricity, and 100% of communes and towns have radio and television coverage.

The cultural identity of ethnic groups continues to be preserved and promoted, linking the development of traditional culture of ethnic minorities with the development of community tourism. Social welfare is taken care of, and the material and spiritual lives of the people are increasingly improved.

These results demonstrate the success of the decisive leadership and direction of the District Party Committee and government in implementing ethnic affairs and ethnic policies; making a significant contribution to the implementation of the Resolution of the 26th District Party Congress, term 2020-2025.

Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Luong Van Khanh - Deputy Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Nghe An province - highly appreciated the results of ethnic affairs work in Quy Chau district in the past period, while also pointing out existing shortcomings and limitations. Accordingly, the locality needs to strengthen the building of national unity, creating high consensus and firm trust of ethnic minorities in the leadership of the Party and the State; actively mobilize resources, effectively exploit the potential and advantages of the locality to accelerate socio-economic development, reduce the poverty rate by 4-5% and achieve sustainable poverty reduction; increase investment in building infrastructure and socio-economic infrastructure; focus on developing agriculture and forestry; effectively implement social policies for particularly difficult areas; develop culture, education, and health; improve the material and spiritual lives of ethnic minorities, promote and preserve the traditional cultural values ​​of ethnic groups. Maintaining political security and ensuring social order and safety contributes to the successful implementation of the local socio-economic development tasks.

The Congress elected 21 outstanding delegates representing over 49,000 ethnic minority people in Quy Chau district to attend the 4th Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of Nghe An province. At the same time, the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee awarded certificates of merit to 8 collectives, and the Chairman of the District People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to 8 collectives and 10 individuals for their outstanding achievements in building and contributing to the development of ethnic affairs over the past 5 years.
