Second Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of Thai Hoa Town, 2024

On the morning of June 25th, Thai Hoa town held its 2nd Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives in 2024. Attending the congress were representatives from the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee, the Provincial Labor Union, Nghe An Newspaper, and Thai Hoa town. 93 delegates, representing prominent and respected ethnic minority communities in Thai Hoa town, participated in the congress.

Thai Hoa town currently has a population of approximately 71,126 people, of which 7,488 are ethnic minorities, including the Thanh, Thai, and Tho people, accounting for 10.5%. These ethnic minorities live in the communes and wards of Nghia Tien, Long Son, Quang Tien, and Quang Phong, and are scattered throughout the town. In recent years, the ethnic minorities in Thai Hoa town have fostered solidarity with the Kinh people to promote socio-economic development, gradually rising to a level with many well-off and wealthy households.

Simultaneously, ethnic programs and policies have been promptly implemented by the town and relevant levels and sectors, contributing to improved infrastructure and welfare facilities, creating favorable conditions for ethnic minorities to develop their economy and engage in cultural exchange. Education and healthcare for ethnic minorities have also been enhanced. Particularly in this new development phase, the Thanh, Thai, and Tho ethnic groups in Thai Hoa town have both successfully integrated into society and preserved and promoted their valuable cultural traditions, creating unique and distinctive ethnic cultural imprints.

Many cultural clubs showcasing gong music, folk culture, and traditional dances such as bamboo pole dances, furrow carving, and folk songs of the Tho people have been restored and staged, attracting participation and spreading these traditions. These cultural forms are performed annually at the Lang Vac Festival, along with other cultural and artistic activities and folk games of various ethnic groups.

At the congress, many heartfelt opinions from ethnic minority people in Thai Hoa town were shared, along with lessons learned in economic development, promoting the role of influential figures in the community, and strengthening national unity. Some opinions also proposed and recommended policies to encourage and support ethnic minority people in the area to continue to advance in all fields.

The Congress of Ethnic Minority Representatives of Thai Hoa town also addressed the joint efforts of all levels, sectors, localities, and the people in building the town into an economic and social center of the Northwest region of Nghe An province.

Since the implementation of Resolution No. 02-NQ/TU (dated July 2, 2021) of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee "on building and developing Thai Hoa town into a central urban area of ​​the Northwest region of Nghe An," Party committees, governments, and mass organizations at all levels have been actively involved, along with the high level of solidarity among cadres, Party members, ethnic minorities, and businesses, to implement many effective programs and projects. Ethnic minorities have actively participated in the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life in residential areas" associated with the project "Building a civilized urban lifestyle."

Throughout its development, Thai Hoa town has focused on sustainable steps, based on promoting the cultural identity of the Northwest region of the province, including the unique cultural characteristics of the Thanh, Thai, and Tho ethnic groups.

Based on that, the delegates unanimously adopted a resolution at the congress to promote national unity; accelerate socio-economic development; promote the unique cultural values ​​of ethnic groups; contribute together with the entire Party Committee, government, mass organizations and people of Thai Hoa town to successfully implement Resolution 02-NQ/TU, in conjunction with implementing Resolution No. 39-NQ/TW dated July 18, 2023 of the Politburo on building and developing Nghe An province until 2030, with a vision to 2045; and are determined to build the town into a city before 2030 and one of the six urban centers of the province.

On this occasion, the Provincial Ethnic Affairs Committee awarded commendations to 5 individuals for their outstanding achievements in ethnic affairs work during the period 2019-2024. The People's Committee of the town also awarded commendations to 6 collectives and 8 individuals from ethnic minority groups for their excellent achievements in the past period.
