The 14th National Congress of the Party held its preparatory session.
On the morning of January 19th, the preparatory session for the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam took place at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.
Comrades To Lam - General Secretary; Luong Cuong - Member of the Political Bureau, President; Pham Minh Chinh - Member of the Political Bureau, Prime Minister; Tran Thanh Man - Member of the Political Bureau, Chairman of the National Assembly; Tran Cam Tu - Member of the Political Bureau, Standing Member of the Secretariat presided over the meeting.
Before the session began, the congress observed a minute of silence in memory of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and other members of the Central Committee who passed away during the 13th Party Congress term.
This is an expression of the deep affection and gratitude of the Congress for the immense contributions of the comrades during the past term, as well as to the cause of Party building and national development.
The congress was attended by 1,586 delegates representing more than 5.6 million party members.
The delegation from the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee attending the congress consisted of 33 delegates, including 30 official delegates from the province and 3 delegates who were Central Committee members assigned by the Politburo to participate in the Youth Union. Comrade Nguyen Khac Than, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, led the delegation.
The Congress was held under the motto: "Unity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development" and the theme: "Under the glorious banner of the Party, working together to successfully achieve the national development goals by 2030; strategic autonomy, self-reliance, self-confidence, and strong progress in the era of national development, for peace, independence, democracy, prosperity, civilization, happiness, and steadily advancing towards socialism."
The Congress will discuss and adopt important documents: the Political Report of the 13th Central Committee of the Party presented to the 14th National Congress of Delegates; and the Report summarizing some theoretical and practical issues on the socialist-oriented Renovation process in Vietnam over the past 40 years.
Report summarizing 15 years of implementing the Party Charter (2011-2025) and proposing directions for supplementing and amending the Party Charter; Report reviewing the leadership and direction of the 13th Central Committee of the Party.
The 14th National Congress of the Party is a momentous political event, marking the beginning of a new era of national development.
With a foundation built on 40 years of reform, innovative thinking, a long-term vision, and strong political determination, the 14th National Congress is expected to make historic decisions, creating a powerful impetus for Vietnam to move strongly into an era of prosperous development, steadily advancing towards socialism.
At the preparatory session, the Congress unanimously approved the Preparatory Session Program, the Rules of Procedure of the Congress, the Congress Work Program, and the Election Regulations for the 14th National Congress of the Party.
The Congress elected a Presidium consisting of 16 members of the Politburo. The Congress also elected a Secretariat of 5 members and a Committee for Verifying the Credentials of Delegates to the Congress consisting of 13 members.
The Congress unanimously approved the Report on the Verification of the Credentials of Delegates to the 14th National Congress of the Party, presented by the Credentials Verification Committee. Accordingly, all 1,586 delegates summoned to attend the Congress are deemed eligible to be delegates.
In the afternoon (January 19th), delegates studied documents at their accommodation. On the morning of January 20th, the 14th National Congress of the Party will officially open and continue its work until January 25th, 2026.
