The 2nd Congress of Nghe An Province Vovinam Federation

Vovinam (Vietnamese martial arts) was created by the late martial arts master Nguyen Loc in Hanoi in 1938 on the basis of taking traditional martial arts and wrestling as the core, and at the same time supplementing it on the basis of distilling the quintessence of a number of other martial arts schools in the world.

Vovinamreturned to Nghe An around 2007 with a number of clubs in Hung Nguyen district and Vinh city, built and coached by Coach Tran Van Bien.

In 2014, Nghe An Vovinam Association was established and is now Nghe An Vovinam Federation. During the past term, the Executive Committee has always been united, unanimous in overcoming difficulties, proactively and creatively in managing activities; thus, successfully completing the goals and tasks set by the Federation.

In the last term, the Vovinam Federation of Nghe An province has achieved many positive results. Every year, thousands of students participate in training and regular activities; Vovinam is the official subject in the 20th Phu Dong Sports Festival of Nghe An province, thereby selecting excellent athletes to join the team to participate in the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival of Vovinam.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Nghe An participated in the 10th National Phu Dong Sports Festival and won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal, 2 bronze medals, ranking 9th out of 39 teams competing in Vovinam; during the term, the High Achievement Vovinam Department, under the Provincial Sports Training Center, with many generations of athletes, achieved many successes in National Championships, National Sports Festivals, and world competitions.

Continuing the achievements of the first term (2014-2024), the second term starting from 2025 will continue to promote strengths, overcome weaknesses and difficulties and gradually promote activities.

In coordination with the Department of Education and Training, gradually bring Vovinam into schools, continue to organize training for physical education teachers across the province to move towards bringing Vovinam into an elective subject in schools.

Replicate the model of making Vovinam an elective Physical Education subject for universities, colleges, vocational schools and high schools in the province.

Speaking at the congress, Mr. Hoang Van Phuc - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports commended, acknowledged and highly appreciated the results that the Vovinam Federation of Nghe An province has achieved.

Mr. Hoang Van Phuc suggested that the federation should closely coordinate with the Department of Culture and Sports; Department of Education and Training; Department of Culture and Information of districts, cities, towns... to promote Vovinam activities among young people and students at schools. This is a great human resource in the work of selecting and training Vovinam talents for the province's high-performance sports teams.

At the congress, 22 members were elected to the Executive Committee of the Nghe An Provincial Vovinam Federation for the second term (2024 - 2029). Also at the congress, with the trust of the Executive Committee members, Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh - Member of the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, Member of the Party Committee of the Bloc, Secretary of the Youth Union of the Bloc of Nghe An Provincial Agencies was elected to hold the position of President of the Nghe An Provincial Vovinam Federation for the second term. The congress also elected 3 Vice Presidents and 1 General Secretary.

On this occasion, the People's Committee of Nghe An province and the Vietnam Vovinam Federation decided to award a Certificate of Merit to the Nghe An Vovinam Federation for its outstanding achievements in the past term.

The Department of Culture and Sports awarded Certificates of Merit to individuals who have made many contributions to the sports movement in general and martial arts in particular of Nghe An province.
