VFF 8th Congress: An uncompromising war?
(Baonghean.vn) - It seemed that after the victory of U23 Vietnam at the 2018 AFC U23 Championship, football people would come closer together, for the sake of the national flag. But in the end, everything is happening the opposite.
As usual, before the VFF Congress, personnel matters are always extremely tense and complicated. The media hardly mentions the report and development strategy of the term, but focuses more on the president. However, if in the past people only cared about who was the VFF president, now things are more complicated.
4-4-1-1 formation
According to the list of candidates finalized by the VFF Executive Committee on March 16, there are 4 candidates for the position of VFF President, including: Permanent Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan, former Vice President of the VPF Board of Directors Nguyen Cong Khe, Director of the My Dinh National Sports Complex Can Van Nghia and former Principal of the University of Physical Education and Sports 2 (Ho Chi Minh City) Le Quy Phuong.

The candidates for Vice President in charge of communications and external affairs are the most numerous, with 5 people introduced: Mr. Le Thanh Trung (Deputy General Director of HDBank), current Vice President of VFF Nguyen Xuan Gu, Mr. Gu's predecessor Mr. Nguyen Lan Trung, Mr. Cao Van Chong (Becamex Binh Duong) and Editor-in-Chief of Football Newspaper Nguyen Van Phu. Mr. Le Thanh Trung recently announced that he would withdraw from the election, so in the end there are 4 people left.
The candidates for Vice President of Finance are Mr. Tran Anh Tu and Vice President of Professional Affairs is Mr. Duong Vu Lam. The election lineup is 4-4-1-1.
It is not difficult to know that the Personnel Subcommittee led by Mr. Le Hung Dung - President of VFF supports the plan of Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan to be President of VFF term VIII, and Mr. Cao Xuan Chong may be the one who will take charge of the media.
Meanwhile, Mr. Doan Nguyen Duc introduced former Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of VPF Nguyen Cong Khe to replace Mr. Le Hung Dung, seeking support from former Vice Chairman of VFF Nguyen Xuan Gu. In particular, he strongly opposed the candidate for Vice Chairman of Finance, Mr. Tran Anh Tu.
According to Mr. Duc, Mr. Tu holding too many important positions like that will harm Vietnamese football, therefore, if Mr. Tu is elected to the 8th term, Mr. Duc will withdraw from football.
Tip of the iceberg
Announcing his resignation as Vice President of Finance of VFF, Mr. Duc strongly reacted to Mr. Tran Anh Tu as “alone, on a horse” while the same was true of the 7th term, the boss of HAGL. Even though he was introduced as Mr. Duc, he was removed from the list of candidates for the VFF Executive Committee by the VFF Personnel Subcommittee. It’s strange, there must be something hidden?
In addition, the owner of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai football team also pointed the finger at the VFF itself, saying that the candidacy was not transparent, or that the criteria of candidates having a university degree was just to find a way to push him out.
Everyone knows that in VFF, only Mr. Duc is a non-professional in both business and football. There is a big rift between Mr. Duc and Mr. Le Hung Dung, before that, Mr. Thang of Gach also left football.

Up to now, except for the Athletics Federation, where having a university degree is clearly stated in the criteria for becoming a member of the Executive Committee, the Badminton, Shooting Federations... or the Paralympic Association do not set criteria for degrees but select leaders according to general standards, targeting specific subjects with passion, suitability, qualifications, abilities and conditions to contribute...
Looking closely, the regulations of the Personnel Subcommittee even violate the VFF's own Charter. How strange!
At the regular press conference of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training on March 22, Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training Tran Duc Phan said that the personnel preparation was undertaken by the previous term, this work is still in progress and will be reported to the competent authorities for approval. The General Department of Sports and Physical Training will not intervene but will let the Congress decide, meaning the battle will be uncompromising.
Mr. Duc is a passionate person about Vietnamese football. He was "suffering" when he missed the SEA Games 29 gold medal, but in return, this "architect" had a great contribution in bringing home the U23 Asia silver medal.
We don't know if the internal situation of the war between Mr. Duc and VFF will make HAGL "disappear" as he declared, but players Tuan Anh, Xuan Truong and their teammates have the right to demand "Have you finished fighting yet, so we can play football".
If not finished, maybe we should postpone the congress to discuss the personnel issue, don't leave it like this, people will laugh at us!
