By the end of 2017, the Philippines could sign an arms purchase contract with Russia, according to Carlos Sorreta, the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to the Russian Federation.

"I think that by the end of this year we will have completed a number of contracts (with Russia)," Sorreta said at a press conference at the MIA headquarters "Rossiya Segodnya" (Sputnik).

Previously, the President of the PhilippinesIn an interview with Russian media, it was stated that Manila is interested in purchasing weapons, precision missiles, helicopters, and aircraft from Russia.

According to Rosoboronexport's General Director, Aleksandr Mikheev, as of the end of May this year, there had been no negotiations on an arms deal between Moscow and Manila.

"Currently, we are conducting concrete negotiations on weapons. We want to acquire weapons to serve our domestic defense and security needs. Today we are discussing weapons for counter-terrorism security. We think we can reach a mutually beneficial agreement with Russia," Ambassador Sorreta said.
