Fake Colonel impersonates staff at General Department II
On July 2nd, the police temporarily detained Nguyen Phuong Tung (born in 1966) to investigate his alleged impersonation of an officer from the General Department II (Ministry of National Defense) and suspected fraud involving the appropriation of property.
According to initial information, in June 2022, through social connections, Nguyen Phuong Tung (residing in Mo Cay Bac district, Ben Tre province) used a different name and proactively contacted and met with Ms. LTC (residing in Cai Be district, Tien Giang province). At that time, he introduced himself as working at the General Department II (Ministry of National Defense) and repeatedly asked to borrow money from Ms. C. for personal expenses. Trusting him, Ms. C. lent Tung over 350 million VND.
On June 30th, the General Department II (Ministry of National Defense), in coordination with the authorities of Cai Be district (Tien Giang province), conducted an inspection and discovered that Mr. Tung was wearing a Vietnamese People's Army uniform with the rank of Colonel.

According to verification by the authorities, Tung (also known as Nguyen Thanh Khiem or Le Duc Loi) does not work at the General Department II (Ministry of National Defense).
Following the aforementioned incident, a woman in Tien Giang also accused Mr. Tung of defrauding her of over 100 million VND.
During initial questioning, Tung, who was staying in Cai Lay district (Tien Giang province), denied knowing the two women mentioned above and denied borrowing, lending, or receiving money from anyone.
The Cai Be District Police are continuing to expand their investigation to clarify the impersonation of military officers and fraudulent activities by Tung (or Khiem or Loi). Anyone who has been a victim should quickly contact the police to assist with the investigation.
