The inmates serving sentences at the Nghe An Provincial Police Detention Center have eased their homesickness thanks to the warm and convivial atmosphere of the New Year's Eve dinner organized by the detention center's management in celebration of the Lunar New Year.

On the afternoon of January 24th (the 25th day of the 12th lunar month), the Nghe An Provincial Police Detention Center held a year-end meal for inmates serving sentences there. This is an annual activity aimed at encouraging inmates during the Tet holiday and the arrival of spring.

Sentenced to 12 months in prison for "gambling," Ms. PTX (born in 1985), residing in Quan Bau, Vinh City, experienced mixed emotions as she celebrated Tet (Lunar New Year) for the first time at the detention center, far from her husband and her 3-year-old child. "This is the first time I've celebrated Tet away from my family, so I miss home very much. But thanks to the care of the officers and the preparations for Tet activities similar to those at home, I feel much warmer," Ms. X shared.

Using ingredients that were the result of their labor during their imprisonment, the inmates prepared a feast with many dishes featuring the distinctive flavors of the traditional Vietnamese Lunar New Year, including banh chung (sticky rice cake), boiled chicken, pickled vegetables, bone broth soup with root vegetables, and more.

Representatives from the Detention Center leadership delivered speeches, extending greetings and encouragement to the inmates on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

This not only demonstrates the affection of the management and correctional officers but also acknowledges the efforts and endeavors of the inmates in their rehabilitation process. From there, it helps inmates better understand the policies and provides them with more motivation to reform well, so they can return home as good citizens sooner.
