Stabbed 'love rival' to death during drinking party, sentenced to 20 years in prison

On the morning of August 24, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened the first instance criminal trial of Vi Van Nuoi (born in 1972, residing in Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district) for murder. The victim in this murder case is Mr. Vi Van Phuc (born in 1969).

According to the indictment, Vi Van Nuoi and Vi Van Phuc lived in the same commune. In the past, Nuoi had a relationship with Ms. Vi Thi Thuong (living in the same commune). However, Nuoi also heard rumors from the locals that Vi Van Phuc often went to his "lover's" house. Nuoi was extremely upset but had never seen him.

On the morning of April 27, Nuoi went to Mrs. Thuong's house and met Mr. Phuc there. The two men got into an argument but were stopped by everyone.

At nearly 9am the same day, Vi Van Nam (Mr. Phuc's son) came to Mrs. Thuong's house to invite Vi Van Nuoi to drink alcohol and he agreed. At the drinking party were Nam, Mr. Nuoi, ​​Mr. Phuc and two other people.

Here, Nuoi and Mr. Phuc continued to have conflicts over the issue with Mrs. Thuong. Feeling angry when hearing Mr. Phuc say: "If you can sleep with Mrs. Thuong, I can sleep with you too", Nuoi went home and took a knife back to Mr. Phuc's house.

When Nuoi entered the house, the two fought, Nuoi rushed to stab Mr. Phuc, killing him on the spot. After committing the crime, Nuoi took the knife and ran to his lover's house to barricade himself until the police persuaded and persuaded him to drop the weapon.

At the trial, Vi Van Nuoi confessed to all of his crimes as stated in the indictment of the provincial People's Procuracy. Nuoi said that he stabbed the victim because he was provoked and committed the crime while under the influence of alcohol.

The defendant's defense attorney also argued that the defendant is an ethnic minority and has not received a full education. Furthermore, he committed the crime in a state of extreme agitation and therefore needs leniency from the law.

Refuting this opinion, the representative of the provincial People's Procuracy affirmed that the defendant had committed the crime of theft of property and intentional injury many times, so he must have been fully aware of his actions. The defendant used a knife to stab Mr. Phuc with a premeditated intention.

The representative of the People's Procuracy also stated that the defendant's murder was brutal, pursuing to the end to take the life of another person, so he needed to be isolated from social life for a long time, so he proposed that the People's Court sentence him to 19-20 years in prison.

Considering the circumstances related to the case, the People's Court sentenced Vi Van Nuoi to 20 years in prison and ordered him to compensate the victim's family 155 million VND for funeral expenses and mental damage.
