(Baonghean) - Recognizing that organizing weddings according to cultural norms is an important task in building a civilized urban lifestyle, the Party Committee, government, departments, and mass organizations of Vinh City have organized, directed, and propagated the implementation of Directive 09-CT/Th.U of the Vinh City Party Committee on promoting civilized wedding practices among cadres, Party members, and the people. This may seem like a small matter, but its successful implementation has significant value.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham and Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh are a couple who embraced the model of holding weddings at the community center very early in Le Loi ward. Although their family could afford to hold the ceremony at a hotel, in response to the city's initiative and the initiative launched by Le Loi ward, Ms. Tham and her husband, as civil servants of the ward, discussed with both families and decided to hold their wedding at the community center.

“The spacious venue of the Le Loi Block 1 Cultural Center allowed friends and family to chat, exchange ideas, sing, and socialize, making the wedding truly warm, joyful, and meaningful,” said Mr. Tuan Anh. Following their wedding, many other weddings have been held at the cultural center, not only in Block 1 but throughout the entire ward, receiving widespread support from the community.

Many wedding models reflecting cultural traditions have been implemented in Vinh City in various forms: "Wedding model with sweets and wedding announcements," "Wedding model without alcohol, beer, or cigarettes," "Wedding model with fewer dishes," etc. The wedding model held at the cultural center is a practical and meaningful option, both suitable for the economic conditions of many families in the city and reducing the problem of tents encroaching on traffic safety corridors.

To build and maintain a successful model of weddings at community centers, in addition to regular propaganda and mobilization efforts, many wards and communes have implemented initial tasks such as: organizing commitment signing ceremonies for couples registering their marriages, allocating annual budgets, and mobilizing social resources to invest in the construction of community centers. This includes building canopies, kitchens, drainage systems, and investing in sound systems and equipment at the community centers to meet the people's desire for a solemn, joyful, and wholesome wedding ceremony that is also convenient and cost-effective.

Each year, the city hosts 80 to 100 weddings at the cultural center, with guest numbers ranging from 120 to 300, concentrated mainly in the wards of Truong Thi, Hung Phuc, Quan Bau, Le Loi, Hung Dung, etc.

In addition, the city has done a good job of inspecting and handling violations, detecting, dismantling, and penalizing units and individuals who rent out wedding tents or erect tents in unauthorized locations, and revoking the "Cultural Family" title for families violating neighborhood regulations. Each year, the city handles over 40 cases of violations, concentrated mainly in the wards of Cửa Nam, Hưng Bình, Trung Đô, Trường Thi, Hồng Sơn, Hưng Phúc…

Ms. Le Thi Bich Thao, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Council of Hung Phuc Ward, affirmed that implementing weddings according to cultural norms as required by Directive 09 of the Vinh City Party Committee has truly become a part of life, having practical significance in guiding the development of beautiful wedding customs, and at the same time having practical value for the lives of each person and each family. To avoid the situation of setting up tents encroaching on the road and sidewalk, the ward has encouraged people to hold weddings at the cultural center and the ward People's Committee courtyard, starting with mobilizing officials and Party members in the committee, and then expanding to the people in all blocks. In the first six months of 2016, the ward had 6 weddings held at the cultural center.

However, the practice of holding weddings with many tables of guests, inviting guests indiscriminately, and not controlling the number of guests still occurs, making marriage a matter of fulfilling social obligations, and wedding models that reflect cultural traditions have not yet been widely promoted.

Comrade Dau Vinh Thinh – Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee, stated: The wards and communes have effectively implemented the signing of commitments to uphold cultural norms in wedding ceremonies for couples registering their marriages. They continue to refine and widely disseminate the provisions of the village and hamlet regulations so that the people are aware of and implement them. They also continue to direct the development and expansion of wedding models at cultural centers and other civilized wedding models. Strict action will be taken against violations involving the erection of wedding tents that encroach on traffic safety corridors.
