With its small, cute shape, eye-catching colors, clear and cheerful sound (often referred to as a "miniature guitar"), and affordable price (averaging from 400,000 to 2,000,000 VND), the ukulele has captured the hearts of many young people in Vinh City in less than a year. According to incomplete statistics, the number of ukulele players in Vinh City has reached nearly 100.

Every Sunday afternoon, at cafes or at Huynh Thuc Khang High School and Vinh University, you can find groups of young people enthusiastically practicing with their ukuleles. Many ukulele groups have been formed, such as the Ukulele Family and Guitarlele groups at Huynh Thuc Khang High School, which are quite active.

Hoang Luu, the leader of the Ukulele Family group, shared that he has been playing the ukulele for 4 or 5 years. Originally a guitar player, he fell in love with the ukulele after accidentally playing it while studying at university in Hue. Upon returning to Vinh, knowing that some young people also played the ukulele, he formed a group to create a space for those with the same hobby. Initially, his group had only about 10 members, but within a few months, the number had grown to over 60.

After seeing her older siblings playing the ukulele, Phan Tuệ Nhi, a student in class 3C at Cửa Nam Primary School, was quickly captivated by the instrument's cheerful melodies. The youngest member of the Ukulele Family group said that the ukulele is very cute and easy to learn. She only needed about two weeks to learn the basics.

Nguyen Trung Hieu, a student at Vinh University, knew about and listened to the ukulele for two years, but only started playing it two months ago. For Hieu, the instrument not only helps him relieve stress after classes but also boosts his confidence and allows him to make new friends. This has pulled him away from the virtual world of social media sites like Facebook…

And like many other music and sports movements among young people, the ukulele is having a positive impact on the lives of young people in Vinh City.

The ukulele is a musical instrument related to the guitar, originating in Hawaii. It emerged in the late 19th century, initially as a cavaquinho version brought to America by the Portuguese, and subsequently spread and became popular throughout the world.

The ukulele has four nylon strings, is easy to play, suitable for beginners, and is often used for accompaniment and sometimes for solo performances. There are four main types of ukuleles: Soprano (53 cm), Concert (58 cm), Tenor (66 cm), and Baritone (76 cm).
