How to register to donate organs after death?

By law, people 18 years of age or older, with full civil capacity, regardless of gender or religion, have the right to donate their tissues and organs while alive or after death, brain death, or body donation.

PThe law does not require parental consent in the donation application. However, it is recommended to have family consent because if the family registers for organ donation without their knowledge, it will be difficult to inform the medical facility. This also avoids family objections, which will prevent the donor from fulfilling his or her wishes.

One brain-dead person donating organs can save the lives of more than 10 other people. Currently, our country has tens of thousands of people who need organ and tissue transplants to sustain their lives, but they cannot do so because there is not enough tissue and organ resources for transplants.

Since 2006, more than 1,000 people nationwide have received organ and tissue transplants. The main organ and tissue sources are from living people, relatives donating a kidney or part of a liver. Organ sources from brain-dead donors are very few.

There are currently two official addresses authorized to register and issue organ donation cards in Vietnam to meet the wishes of registering to donate organs to save lives upon death:

Organ donation registration is completely free. All costs of pre-donation testing are the responsibility of the medical facility.
