(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 6th, the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Tam in Block 9, Lat town, Tan Ky district, unexpectedly unearthed a giant cassava root in their garden.

The kudzu root resembles ginseng in shape, with a main root reaching up to 1.3 meters in length and weighing up to 40 kg. The total weight of the entire kudzu root system exceeds 50 kg.

Ms. Tam said that two years ago, she and her son, Mr. Nguyen The Son, planted a few cassava cuttings at the gable end of their house. These were ordinary cassava plants, and for the past two years, her family had not fertilized or cared for them at all.

It took Mrs. Tam's family more than three hours to dig up this cassava root.

But on the morning of February 6th, when the whole family went out to dig up the cassava root, everyone was astonished to find a "giant" root. It took the whole family three hours to dig up the root, and even then, a few parts were broken off, with the tail end still buried deep in the ground. Many curious people came to see it. Mrs. Tam said that her family would boil a large pot of it to share with neighbors, and grind the rest into powder to use during the upcoming summer.
