Digging the foundation of a house, discovered a 36 kg jar of ancient coins in Nghe An.

On May 1, Mr. Lang Van Trung (35 years old) in Cam Hoa village, Cam Son commune, Anh Son district said that his family had just dug up an ancient jar of coins while building the foundation of the house.

Previously, while his family was using a bulldozer to dig soil in an old garden, they suddenly discovered a ceramic jar. “While the machine was digging soil at a depth of about 1.2m, it hit a strange object. We thought it was a rock, but when we got closer, we saw a jar with a lid, covered in mud. Many people around found it strange and rushed to see,” said Mr. Trung.

The earthenware jar that Mr. Trung’s family just discovered has a beautiful shape, about 45 cm high, with a diameter of about 30 cm at its largest point. “After opening the lid of the jar and scraping the thin layer of soil on top, I saw that underneath were coins suspected to be an ancient currency,” Mr. Trung confirmed.

The jar and the ancient coins were carefully washed and cleaned by Mr. Trung's family. Observation showed that the number of coins (round, square holes) was quite large, but they were rusted, making it difficult to read the Chinese characters on the coins. The total weight of the jar was 36 kg.

Mr. Lang Van Tham - the village chief of Cam Hoa village confirmed that Mr. Lang Van Trung - a villager in the village had just discovered a jar of ancient money. The garden where this jar of ancient money was dug up is the ancestral land where Mr. Trung's family has lived for many generations. Mr. Tham also added: Last year, when building the village's sports field, an ancient jar of money like this was also discovered.
