(Baonghean.vn) - Taking advantage of the approaching Tet holiday, many traders of peach blossoms and kumquats are indulging in exorbitant prices.

In the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year), the streets along Lenin Boulevard become bustling as many traders continue to bring in peach blossoms to supply the city's residents for the holiday. Most are local peach blossoms, freshly cut from gardens. Photo: Lam Tung

Mr. Tran Van Chien, a peach blossom trader from Son La province, said: "The price of peach blossoms has increased quite sharply this year as Tet approaches. A normal branch of Son La peach blossoms sells for 1 million VND, while branches with beautiful shapes, many buds and flowers, and green shoots cost at least 3 million VND. The high price is due to the warm weather this year, causing the peach blossoms to bloom earlier, resulting in a scarcer supply on the market." (Photo: Lam Tung)

Besides peach blossoms from Son La, peach blossoms transported from Laos also attract buyers. These peach blossoms are very expensive, and few can afford them. Many people inquire about the price and then leave because the asking price can reach tens of millions of dong. Photo: Lam Tung
What many people find appealing about the Laotian rock peach tree is the rough, mossy texture of its trunk, even though each branch only produces a few blossoms. Photo: Lam Tung

The price of Lao peach blossoms on the market this Tet holiday is also quite expensive, ranging from 7 to 14 million VND per branch. Anh Tú, a seller of Lao peach blossoms, said that the high price this year is due to the already high purchase price in Laos; in addition, the border crossing fee for each truck carrying 20-30 branches is already 27 million VND, plus transportation costs to Vinh, so the selling price this year is much higher than in previous years. This year, despite high prices, kumquats are not selling well. Ms. Tam, who sells kumquats on Le Nin Boulevard, said that the import price from Hung Yen this year is 20% higher than last year. She imported 200 trees but has only sold 50 so far. (Photo: Lam Tung)

Meanwhile, kumquat bonsai trees are also quite expensive, being offered for sale from 1.5 to 7 million VND per pot. Photo: Lam Tung

Those selling yellow apricot blossoms are worried as the sunny weather has almost caused all the flowers to bloom; however, the price of apricot blossoms for Tet (Lunar New Year) is quite high, with small pots being offered for 1.5 million VND and larger, beautifully shaped pots for over 3 million VND. Generally, Nhat Tan peach blossoms and yellow apricot blossoms are not for everyone, and the excessively high prices are further contributing to the sluggish market. Photo: Lam Tung
