Highlights of Nghe An's Industry and Trade Sector in 2016

(Baonghean) - In 2016, alongside favorable conditions, the situation in the province and the country faced many difficulties and challenges affecting the production and business activities of enterprises. However, with the efforts of the entire industry, the trade sector of Nghe An achieved many outstanding achievements. Nghe An Newspaper would like to introduce the highlights of the industry in 2016.

1. Improve the quality and effectiveness of advisory work.

In implementing the Resolution of the 18th Provincial Party Congress, the Department of Industry and Trade advised the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee to issue and implement: Regulations on food safety management in the industry and trade sector; Regulations on the construction, management, and organization of the implementation of the Nghe An Trade Promotion Program; Procedures for transforming the management and operation model of markets; Regulations on coordination in management in multi-level marketing and sales activities; Planning for the development of the petroleum business network; Planning for the development of electricity in Nghe An province (Component I) and Planning for the development of industry in Nghe An province for the period 2016 - 2020 with consideration to 2025. Projects include: Market development, Development of electricity supply infrastructure, Export development; Development of commercial infrastructure in Nghe An province for the period 2016 - 2020; E-commerce development plan and Nghe An Trade Promotion Program 2016 - 2020.

2. Commemorating the 65th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Industry and Trade Sector

On May 13, 2016, the Department of Industry and Trade successfully organized a seminar commemorating the 65th anniversary of the traditional day of the Industry and Trade sector (May 14, 1951 - May 14, 2016). The sector organized celebratory activities, affirming a journey of building and developing the sector with many important contributions to the homeland and the country.

3. Expanding export markets to 72 countries and territories.

Along with the successful implementation of the Action Plan for the Strategy on Export and Import of Goods for the period 2012-2020, with a vision to 2030, the province's export value has increased significantly. Total export turnover for the year reached US$849 million, achieving 124.8% of the plan and increasing by 12.1% compared to 2015. Of this, the export turnover of goods was US$568.5 million, achieving 113.7% of the plan and increasing by 10.39%. To date, Nghe An businesses have expanded their export markets to 72 countries and territories.

4. Many large factories were inaugurated and put into operation.

In 2016, the value of industrial production reached VND 38,639 billion, an increase of nearly 14% compared to 2015. The industrial production index increased by 9.35%.

During the year, many large projects came into operation: Hoa Sen Nghe An Factory in Dong Hoi Industrial Park, Hoang Mai town; Nghe An Wood Processing Factory in Nghia Dan; Vinatex Hoang Mai Garment Factory; Song Lam Cement Factory in Bai Son commune (Do Luong)... creating new capacity to boost the province's economic growth.

5. Ten power plants are operational with a total capacity of 708.5 MW.

The industry consistently focuses on supporting and resolving difficulties, creating favorable conditions for hydropower plants to operate. Ten plants in the province continue to operate with a total capacity of 708.5 MW, supplying 10.8 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid annually, ensuring timely electricity supply for key projects such as cement factories and Hoa Sen steel plants.

The Ang village project in Chau Thang district is completing acceptance testing and preparing for power generation in early 2017.

6. Stabilize the market and protect consumer rights effectively.

As the standing agency of the Provincial Steering Committee 389, the department advised the Provincial People's Committee to establish a team to inspect the fight against smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods in the province. It chaired and coordinated with relevant departments and agencies to conduct 27 inspections at 87 units and organizations; and handled administrative violations at 31 units with a total fine of 664 million VND. The direction and implementation of market inspection and control were carried out effectively, with a total of 8,973 inspections in 2016; a total of 7,212 cases processed; and an estimated total fine revenue of 11,077,864,000 VND. The department performed well in specialized inspections and market management.

7. Promote trade and business networking activities.

Promoting supply-demand connectivity and e-commerce has been effective. At conferences connecting supply and demand for goods between Nghe An province and An Giang, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi, more than 50 distinctive and advantageous products of the province were displayed and introduced, 52 memoranda of cooperation were signed, and many supply contracts were concluded between businesses inside and outside the province.

Furthermore, Nghe An's e-commerce index for the period 2011-2016 consistently ranked among the top in the country. To date, the Nghe An e-commerce trading platform has attracted over 350 businesses registering to set up online stores with 3,211 products and services, and has received over 5.5 million visits.

8. Effectively implement the campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods".

Successfully organized numerous Vietnamese goods fairs in Nghe An in 2016 in rural and mountainous areas. Organized the Nghe An Trade and Industry Fair in 2016 with over 200 booths from 100 businesses inside and outside the province. The main products were agricultural products, garments, leather goods, seafood, household wood products, electronics, and other consumer goods...

9. Successfully organized Vietnam Consumer Rights Day.

The Department of Industry and Trade organized many practical activities in response to Vietnam Consumer Rights Day 2016. Besides rallies, the Department directed the People's Committees of districts, towns, and cities to simultaneously display banners and flags along main roads, streets, and public places in Nghe An province with the theme "The Right to Safety of Vietnamese Consumers," following the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. The Department successfully organized workshops and training programs on "Protecting Consumer Rights in Multi-Level Marketing" and "The Right to Safety of Consumers: Current Situation and Solutions."

10. Thirteen outstanding rural industrial products were honored.

In 2016, 32 products registered for the selection process, divided into four groups: handicrafts; processed agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products and food; machinery, equipment, tools, and mechanical parts; and other products. The Provincial Council for the Selection of Outstanding Rural Industrial Products in 2016 decided to select 13 out of 32 products that met the criteria.
