Warning signs of leukemia you shouldn't ignore.

Dr. Vu Quang Hung, Deputy Head of the Department of Chemotherapy at the National Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital, has pointed out the signs of leukemia.

Everyone needs to pay attention to the signs of bleeding gums.

According to Dr. Vu Quang Hung, blood cancer (also known as leukemia) is a malignant form of cancer. The disease occurs when the body begins to experience a sudden increase in white blood cells.

White blood cells are responsible for protecting the body, so when their number increases dramatically, they lack food and nutrients. Therefore, they often consume red blood cells—a vital component of blood. Red blood cells are gradually destroyed, which is why patients with this disease will suffer from anemia and eventually die.

According to Dr. Hung, there are currently acute and chronic leukemias. Each group is further divided into several subgroups. Each type of the disease has a different prognosis, therefore requiring different treatment approaches.

Blood cancers include: leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.

In acute leukemia, the body produces a large number of immature white blood cells that clog the bone marrow and prevent it from producing other blood cells needed to build a balanced immune system and a healthy bloodstream.

For those with lymphoma, the lymphatic system is affected – a vital part of the immune system that helps protect the body from infection and disease.

Lymphoma occurs when the body produces too many lymphocytes in an uncontrolled manner, and these lymphocytes survive longer than usual, causing an overload that damages the body's immune system. Lymphoma can develop in many parts of the body, including lymph nodes, bone marrow, blood, spleen, and other organs.

As for multiple myeloma, it is a type of blood cancer affecting plasma cells.

Regarding the causes of leukemia, according to Dr. Hung, there is still no single primary cause, but rather risk factors that can cause mutations leading to leukemia. However, risk factors for leukemia include: living environment, toxic chemicals, radioactive substances, viral infections, and gene mutations…

Dr. Hung advises that people can use the following signs to recognize when leukemia is developing.

When the patient experiences prolonged fatigue, persistent fever, significant weight loss, pale skin, and bruising or bleeding in the skin and other organs.

In addition, people with leukemia may also experience symptoms such as abdominal pain, anemia, rashes, acne or purpura on the body, joint pain, infections, shortness of breath, and bone and joint pain.

In particular, people need to pay close attention to warning signs such as nosebleeds, bleeding gums, and prolonged menstrual bleeding.

Unlike dengue fever, the bruises of this disease are multifaceted, appearing as nodules, dots, patches, and scattered lesions on the limbs or spreading throughout the body. The initial hemorrhagic spots are red, then turn pale yellow and dark.

Finally, to accurately determine if a patient has thrombocytopenic purpura, experts recommend regular health checkups and timely blood tests to detect the disease, especially when symptoms like those mentioned above appear.
