Returning to Goodison Park after more than a decade away, manager David Moyes is expected to help Everton overcome their current slump in form.
At the end of matchday 20 of the 2024/2025 Premier League season, Everton decided to sack manager Sean Dyche. The reason was none other than the dismal performance of the Goodison Park team. Specifically, Everton had only managed 17 points and were languishing in 16th place in the standings.
Replacing Sean Dyche is David Moyes, who previously managed Everton from 2002 to 2013. The contract between the two parties is reportedly for two and a half years. The immediate task for the 1963-born strategist is to help Everton avoid relegation from the Premier League in the 2024/2025 season.
Objectively speaking, this is an extremely difficult task for manager David Moyes and his players. The quality of the Toffees' squad is quite modest. Apart from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, the rest of the players are not particularly outstanding in terms of professional skill.
In their most recent match, in Round 21 of the 2024/2025 Premier League, Everton lost 1-0 to Aston Villa at Goodison Park. This defeat leaves Everton languishing in 16th place, just one point ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who occupy 18th place (the relegation zone).
Remember, "you can't make something out of nothing." If Everton don't actively participate in the 2025 winter transfer window, they risk relegation to the Championship next season. However, Liverpool are not exactly "rich" as they have already spent heavily on building their new stadium.
Most likely, manager David Moyes will have to make do with the resources he has at his disposal. Overall, the Scottish manager's second adventure at Goodison Park will be fraught with difficulties and challenges. Will he be able to help Everton turn things around?
