The Ministry of Transport has just requested the Department of Vehicle Registration to urgently propose amendments and supplements to legal regulations so that affixing ETC tags is a mandatory procedure in vehicle registration.

Specifically, the Ministry of Transport (MOT) has just sent a document to the Department of Registration regarding the increase of identification card stickers to participate in the ETC non-stop toll collection service.

The Ministry requested the Department of Registration to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to propose amendments and supplements to legal regulations to stipulate that affixing ETC identification cards is a mandatory procedure in the process of registering road motor vehicles.

The Registry Department is required to report to the Ministry of Transport on the above content before August 30.

This request was made to implement the Prime Minister's direction in Directive 11 dated July 19 on speeding up the process of attaching identification cards to cars to use non-stop electronic toll collection services.

Previously, from August 1, 10 highways began collecting automatic non-stop tolls on the entire route, eliminating mixed lanes. BOT stations on national highways will only have one mixed toll lane.

Car owners will be fined 1-2 million VND if they enter the non-stop lane without using the ETC service.

Mr. Bui Trinh - General Director of Vietnam Digital Traffic Joint Stock Company (VDTC) said that by the end of July, the company had more than 1.6 million ePass cards affixed to vehicles.

At the same time, VETC also reported that it had tagged over 2 million vehicles. The two companies recorded 35,000 cases of overlapping non-stop toll collection (ETC) tags.

Thus, by the end of the time of applying the free ETC tag policy, the whole country had about 3.6 million vehicles with tags.
