In disaster situations where energy is scarce, this will be an incredibly useful emergency light. Instead of trying to find a pair of AA batteries, you can simply use a mixture of water and salt to power the Hitachi Maxell Mizusion lamp for 3 days.

The lamp uses oxygen from the air and a replaceable magnesium rod to create the negative and positive electrodes and generate an electric current.

This lamp costs only $26 in Japan, but if you're in another country, it will cost you around $57. Replacement magnesium anodes are sold for just $9.
