Salt farmers in Nghe An continue salt production after the storm.

(Baonghean.vn) - After typhoon No. 2 passed, taking advantage of the sunny weather, salt farmers in Quynh Luu (Nghe An) are urgently going to the fields to clean up the salt pans and repair the warehouses to continue salt production.

The family of Ms. Tran Thi Thuy in Hamlet 8, Quynh Minh Commune (Quynh Luu District) has 3.5 acres of salt fields - equivalent to about 230 square meters.² The production area is large; on average, the family harvests 3-5 quintals of granular salt per day. After drying, the salt is stored in a warehouse awaiting traders to come and purchase it all at once.

Upon hearing the news that Typhoon No. 2 was forecast to hit Nghe An, her family carefully reinforced and covered their salt storage facility. However, on the evening of July 16th, strong winds and rain blew away the corrugated iron roof and caused 3.5 meters of the warehouse wall to collapse, sweeping away much of the family's salt and resulting in significant economic losses.

After the storm subsided and the weather cleared up with sunshine, Ms. Thuy and her neighbors took advantage of the opportunity to go to the salt fields to clean the filtration ponds, change the water in the irrigation canals, and rebuild the salt storage facilities to continue production.

The entire Quynh Luu district has approximately 600 hectares of salt production, concentrated in the communes of Quynh Yen, Quynh Minh, Quynh Tho, Quynh Thuan, Quynh Nghia, and An Hoa. According to district statistics, Typhoon No. 2 ripped off the roofs of 174 salt warehouses, swept away 313 tons of salt, and damaged over 100 km of salt pans, causing significant losses to salt farmers estimated at around 4 billion VND.

After the storm subsided, Quynh Luu district implemented measures to assess and mitigate the damage suffered by the local people. The district assigned officials in charge of each sector—agriculture, salt production, livestock, and fisheries—to coordinate with 33 communes and towns to accurately compile data on the damage caused by the storm. This data was then reported to the district so that timely financial assistance could be provided to the affected people.

At the same time, people were encouraged to go to the fields to overcome the consequences, repair the embankments, rebuild the warehouses, and continue salt and vegetable production when the sun came out.
