A military source told Sputnik that "a few days ago, hundreds of militants attacked the army's positions from the Turkish side of the border. But the army, with the support of heavy artillery and tanks, successfully repelled the attackers, who were unable to capture the village of Saraf and the surrounding heights."
The source noted that the militants are worried about the anti-terrorist operation in Idlib province, so they are trying to consolidate in the north of Latakia province to secure their logistical lines. Through Latakia, terrorists in Idlib and Hama receive weapons and ammunition. According to the source, the army is on high alert and successfully repelled the attacks.
The Syrian army controls key mountains in Latakia province. Fighters from Jabhat al-Nusra have regularly tried to push the army out of strategically important heights, but to no avail.
