Against the backdrop of complex global geopolitical developments, the question of whether Russia poses a threat to Europe is becoming a focal point of public attention. However, senior Moscow officials have consistently rejected this scenario.

According to RT, in an interview with the Weltwoche publication, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made direct comments about the current security situation. The Kremlin representative stated clearly that Moscow is not the source of danger for the region.

Pekslov urged all parties to consider Russia's core interests, thereby paving the way for the early resumption of substantive dialogue.

Peskov's statements are entirely consistent with the position maintained by the Russian leadership over the past period. In December 2025, within the framework of the "Direct Line" event combined with the annual press conference, President Vladimir Putin spoke on this issue. Peskov described the accusations that Russia is threatening Europe with military actions as completely unfounded.

Furthermore, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has also emphasized that Moscow has no plans to attack member states of the European Union (EU) or NATO. Russian officials have even expressed their readiness to formalize these non-aggression commitments in the form of legally binding documents.

In contrast to concerns directed at Moscow, some observers are focusing their attention on the actions of Western countries. Speaking to the RIA Novosti news agency, Austrian geopolitical analyst Patrick Poppel noted that NATO is attempting to draw as many countries as possible into the vortex of conflict.

According to this expert, the relentless efforts to bring neutral nations into NATO, or at least strengthen ties with the alliance, are essentially concrete preparations for war. Poppel considers this the only logical explanation for the current actions. NATO is acting with an extremely deep level of involvement and is determined to recruit new members at all costs.

Mr. Poppel emphasized that this trend is of crucial importance to the global security landscape. Furthermore, the analyst argued that even a country that has consistently maintained neutrality, such as Austria, is experiencing significant impacts from this expansion.
