Adolf Hitler's telephone sold for $243,000.

The personal landline phone of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was successfully auctioned on February 19th for $243,000.

AFP reported that the Siemens telephone, originally black, had been repainted crimson and engraved with Hitler's name. This artifact was found inside his bunker after the defeat of the Nazi regime.

Alexander Historical Auction House in the US estimates the auction value of this phone to be between $200,000 and $300,000. The starting bid for the phone is $100,000.

Arena judge Alexander called the rotary telephone that Hitler received from the Nazi armed forces "the most destructive weapon of all time, involving millions of lives."

Hitler used this telephone to issue almost all of his orders during the last two years of World War II.

On February 19th, the auction house put more than 1,000 items up for auction, including Hitler's telephone and a porcelain statue of a German Shepherd dog that fetched $24,300.

Both buyers of the phone and the statue made their offers over the phone.
