Adolf Hitler's phone sells for $243,000

The personal landline telephone of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler was successfully auctioned on February 19 for $243,000.

AFP reported that the Siemens phone, originally black, had been repainted crimson and engraved with Hitler's name. The relic was found inside his bunker after the defeat of the Nazi regime.

Alexander Historical Auctions in the US estimates the auction value of this phone at around $200,000 to $300,000. The phone's starting price is $100,000.

Auctioneer Alexander called the rotary phone Hitler received from the Nazi armed forces "the most destructive weapon of all time, linked to millions of lives".

Hitler used this telephone to give almost all his orders during the last two years of World War II.

On February 19, the auction house put up more than 1,000 items, including Hitler's telephone and a porcelain figurine of a German shepherd for $24,300.

Both the buyer of the phone and the statue bid over the phone.
