The area planted with winter corn in Anh Son increased by nearly 200 hectares.

(Baonghean.vn) - The winter crop production movement has been quite vibrant throughout Anh Son district for many years, with corn being considered the main crop.

This winter season, Anh Son district planted 3,250 hectares of corn, including 1,473 hectares on alluvial land, 629 hectares on upland fields, and 700 hectares on rice paddies. The corn area increased by 164 hectares compared to the same period in 2016, thanks to some localities concentrating on planting on areas in valleys and alluvial plains. Several communes saw an increase in winter corn acreage, such as Dinh Son, Cam Son, Tuong Son, Hoi Son, Long Son, and Duc Son.

Along with winter corn production, this year Anh Son district is also focusing on planting 300 hectares of various vegetables and legumes, 100 hectares of gourds and pumpkins, and 200 hectares of sweet potatoes on alluvial land, riverside land, and hillside land to increase income per unit area.

Currently, across the fields, farmers in Anh Son are busy tending to their winter corn crop.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Dang, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Anh Son district, said: "Right from the beginning of the season, the district has focused on directing, exploiting, and maximizing all resources for investment in the development of winter crop production in a comprehensive, safe, and economically efficient manner."

For corn cultivation on land previously used for two rice crops, to encourage farmers to plant it, Anh Son district has implemented a seed subsidy mechanism of 25,000 VND per sao (approximately 1000 square meters). In addition, the district has directed working groups in villages and hamlets to visit each household to encourage and guide farmers to cultivate according to the correct planting schedule and apply intensive farming methods to increase productivity and efficiency.
