Actor Lam Thai steals handbag from Miss Mexico in Da Lat.
The suspect, Nguyen Lam Thai, took advantage of a mistakenly issued organizer's pass to enter the backstage area, steal an LV bag belonging to Miss Cosmo Mexico, and attempt to dispose of the evidence.
The police in Xuan Huong ward, Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, have clarified the case of actor Nguyen Lam Thai (25 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) stealing a handbag from Miss Mexico, Leon Yuriar Angela Michelle.
According to his testimony, on the evening of December 5th, Thai went to Lam Vien Square to watch the opening ceremony of the International Tea Festival. Although he was not a member of the organizing committee, Thai used a mistakenly issued access card to enter the backstage area reserved for beauty queens and models.
Taking advantage of loopholes to commit theft.
In the dressing area, Thai pretended to help adjust the outfits and take photos for some models and beauty queens he knew beforehand. Around 10 PM, while the contestants were performing on stage, Thai took Miss Cosmo Mexico's LV handbag, which was left unattended on a chair.
Shortly afterward, the suspect exited through the back door and left the scene. Inside the bag were a camera and several personal belongings and documents belonging to the victim.
The attempt to dispose of the body was unsuccessful.
At around 1 AM on December 6th, while at his accommodation, Thai heard a beeping sound coming from his AirPods in his bag. Fearing being tracked, he threw the device into the toilet and flushed it.
That same morning, after checking the stolen items, Thai took out his camera and hid the bag in the trunk of his rented motorbike. When he saw the Miss Cosmo Mexico contestant report the bag was stolen on social media, Thai continued to try to conceal it by transferring the LV bag into another black cloth bag.
At around 3 PM, while traveling in Xuan Huong ward, Thai and his friend were stopped by police for inspection. Taking advantage of the moment when his friend was busy with the task, Thai went into a nearby coffee shop and left the bag containing the evidence. However, this act was discovered, and Thai was taken to the police station for questioning.
At the investigative agency, Nguyen Lam Thai admitted to all his crimes and returned the stolen property. It is known that Thai had a previous conviction for theft and was serving a 28-month probationary period from a 14-month suspended sentence.
Upon receiving her belongings back, Miss Mexico expressed her gratitude to the Vietnamese police force. "I didn't expect the Vietnamese police to be so professional and quick. Da Lat is not only beautiful but also safe; I will return," she shared.
