Because she was so focused on her career, actress Van Dung missed many precious moments growing up with her son, actor Long Vu. This is something she regrets and feels remorse about later in life.

Burst into tears over her son's midnight gift.

Both mother and daughter are currently busy with their own projects. While Van Dung is in Saigon for a film premiere.Demon PossessionLong Vũ is filming a new movie in Hanoi. They still regularly call and text each other every day.

For the artist, Long Vũ's success is just the beginning. Every day, she reminds him to strive, be eager to learn, and remain humble. Vân Dung considers herself the most demanding audience member, never directly praising her son but always offering critical feedback so that Long Vũ can improve his acting skills.

Occasionally, she would call a few colleagues and acquaintances on the crew to check on her son. If she noticed Long Vu wasn't doing well, she would correct and remind him immediately.

A colleague once asked Van Dung:Long Vu is so well-behaved; he's always so polite and obedient wherever he goes. How did you teach him?The artist believes that a child with a good education will always have good manners. Despite being busy until late at night, she always wakes up early to talk to and guide her child.

Throughout her 35-year career, Van Dung has worked tirelessly, almost without interruption.

She remembers missing her son's childhood, his illnesses, and his growing up because she was always busy performing, only coming home once every three or six months. Out of love for his mother, Long Vũ studied and ate on his own, only relying on the help of his maternal grandparents when needed.

There were days when Van Dung came home at 2 or 3 in the morning, only having time to see her child sleeping before rushing back to clean the house and kitchen. This made her feel regretful, as she felt she hadn't fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother.

“I remember one time I got home from work at 1 or 2 in the morning. My friend Nhím (Long Vũ) was awake waiting at the door. He was holding a small cake and a small business card, and then he started singing.”Happy birthdayGift for Mom."I burst into tears because I felt so sorry for my child. To buy that cake, the housekeeper contributed 70,000 VND, and Nhím had to pay 50,000 VND by skipping breakfast for 5 days," Vân Dung recounted.VietNamNet.

Van Dung and her husband have clearly defined roles in raising their child. At home, she plays the "bad cop," while her husband plays the "good cop." Therefore, in Long Vu's eyes, his mother is strict and a perfectionist, which makes him very afraid of her.

Van Dung is both a teacher and a demanding audience member for her son.

Knowing that her son wanted to pursue art, Van Dung spent three days discussing it with him. She neither encouraged nor forbade him from pursuing the profession. Seeing Long Vu's clear determination, she agreed to let him give it a try.

Van Dung lets her child pursue their passion freely, only setting conditions."When suffering, you are forbidden to complain; when poor, you are forbidden to grumble or ask your mother for money."

ParticipationWalking amidst the brilliant skyLong Vũ once called his mother asking to quit acting because it was too hard. Vân Dung calmly advised and encouraged her son to think carefully.

“I told my mother I could help convince the director to let him take the role, but he had to leave acting immediately afterward. The next morning, Vu called to apologize and said he would continue with the film crew,” she expressed.

Seeing her son achieve initial success, Van Dung felt somewhat satisfied. She was happy that he was a mature person, living a virtuous life and knowing how to love his family. Long Vu sent all the money he earned to his mother to manage.

Am I so ugly that directors only invite me to star in horror movies?

When accepting a film role, Van Dung carefully reads the script and discusses it with the director and crew. Even so, the artist couldn't avoid feeling anxious to the point of "losing sleep and appetite."

She's afraid that when the film is released in theaters, people will watch it and comment..."Van Dung acts like a madwoman," "she acts terribly."It's heartbreaking to accidentally read negative comments.

The artist hopes that viewers will praise the crew if the film is good, and offer encouragement if it's not so good so that future projects can be improved.

Van Dung spent about 20 days with the crew, filming in Bao Loc, Lam Dong. For her, the most difficult part was the continuous rain. The crew members had no choice but to wait for the rain to stop and adapt to the setting.

Van Dung believes that not only acting, but every job has its own difficulties, so she doesn't dare complain. She only hopes that the collective efforts of the team will be recognized, so that they have the motivation to do their job.

Van Dung always wondered why so many directors only invited her to act in horror films.

"Maybe it's because I'm too ugly? On television, I'm always given feisty, fierce roles, so I'm afraid viewers might find this movie funny instead of scary," Van Dung shared.

At 50, suddenly becoming sought-after thanks to her film roles—is that too late for her?Van Dung said that it's never too late for art. She's performed on all the stages and in all the programs she's been on.Táo Quân, Meeting at the Weekend…they are all “children” that she is proud of.

In film, she doesn't set short-term or long-term goals because she believes that an actor will accept any role, regardless of whether it's a leading or supporting role, or any other field.

Van Dung's joy is simply waking up one day feeling energetic, being able to work in her profession, and receiving recognition and love from her audience.

Artists live life at a slower pace, learning to pamper themselves after years of hard work in the acting profession.

On her days off, "Health Minister" takes care of herself: exercising, meeting friends for meals, shopping, watching movies, listening to music… and especially enjoying the 7 PM news. She often reminds those around her to work slowly so they can enjoy life.

Despite being a well-known figure in her profession, Van Dung is an introvert. Therefore, she keeps her private life very discreet, especially information about her partner.

"Performing in front of thousands of spectators is incredibly exhilarating, but leaving the stage makes me scared and timid to the point of being cowardly. I don't want to share about my family, about my husband, because that's a small part of my life I want to keep private," she said.
