35 years of career, Van Dung worked tirelessly, almost never interrupted.
She remembers when her child was young, sick or growing up, she missed out on performances, only coming home once every 3 or 6 months. Feeling sorry for his mother's hard work, Long Vu studied and ate by himself, only asking for help from his grandparents when needed.
There were days when Van Dung came home at 2-3am, only had time to look at her child while he was sleeping, then was busy cleaning the house and the kitchen. That made her regretful because she felt she had not fulfilled her responsibilities as a mother.
“I remember one time I got home from work at 1-2am. At that time, Nhim (Long Vu - PV) was waiting at the door. He held a small cake and a small business card, then sangHappy birthdayfor mom.I burst into tears because I felt sorry for my child. To buy that cake, the maid contributed 70 thousand, and Nhim had to contribute 50 thousand from skipping breakfast for 5 days,” Van Dung toldVietNamNet.

Knowing that her son wanted to pursue art, Van Dung spent three days discussing it. She neither encouraged nor prevented him from pursuing the profession. Seeing Long Vu's determination, she agreed to let him try.

Van Dung was somewhat satisfied with her son's initial achievements. She was happy because her son was mature, lived a good life and loved his family. Long Vu sent all the money he earned to his mother to manage.

Van Dung always wondered why many directors only invited her to act in ghost movies.
“Maybe it’s because I’m too ugly? On TV, I’m always given the role of a fierce, scary character, so I’m afraid that the audience watching this movie will find it funny instead of being scared of ghosts,” Van Dung shared.
At 50 years old, suddenly being sought after for acting in movies, is it too late for you?, Van Dung said that art is never too late. The stages she has performed on, the programTao Quan, Meet at the Weekend… all are “children” that make her proud.
With cinema, she does not plan for the short or long term because she believes that an actor only needs a good script to accept the role, regardless of main or supporting role or any field.
Van Dung's joy is simply waking up one day with energy, being able to work, and having the audience acknowledge and give love.
