What happens if you take a shower after 10 PM?
The hot summer weather makes many people think about showering later in the day to cool down and sleep better. In reality, this can be harmful to your health.
According to Colonel and Traditional Medicine Practitioner Bui Hong Minh, former Chairman of the Ba Dinh Traditional Medicine Association, in terms of the yin-yang principle, night belongs to yin and day belongs to yang. The human body depends on and is influenced by the weather.

In the evening (when the temperature and air pressure drop), showering at night is not beneficial and can even be harmful to health. This can cause various ailments, ranging from mild headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and limb pain to difficulty moving. In severe cases, it can lead to dangerous conditions such as strokes and death.
Young people who shower at night, especially with cold water, may experience vasoconstriction, which hinders blood circulation and can easily lead to headaches and neck and shoulder pain, eventually developing into chronic headaches.
Elderly people have physiological characteristics such as constricted blood vessels, atherosclerosis (calcification) of the blood vessel walls, and thicker, more viscous blood than younger people, so they often experience high blood pressure. If they shower late at night, they are at a much higher risk of stroke compared to younger people.
Therefore, physician Hong Minh advises people with high blood pressure and vestibular disorders to absolutely avoid showering at night to prevent stroke.
Experts note that bathing in hot water also causes veins to dilate, simultaneously lowering blood pressure. Therefore, people with low blood pressure or unstable blood pressure may experience a sudden drop in blood pressure, which is very dangerous and life-threatening.
Furthermore, women should avoid showering late in the day and refrain from showering and washing their hair at the same time, as this can easily cause headaches and menstrual cramps. During this time, blood is lost, and showering and washing hair simultaneously causes the body to become cold, leading to stagnation of blood flow and resulting in blood clots, causing abdominal pain.
"Children, pregnant women, people who are drunk, and those who are tired and sweating a lot from work should absolutely not take a shower after 10 PM," advised traditional medicine practitioner Minh.
The best time to bathe for health is in the morning. "Since ancient times, our ancestors have said that bathing in the morning is like gold, bathing at noon is like silver, and bathing in the evening is like lead," said traditional medicine practitioner Hong Minh.
