Receiving questions from many traffic participants about the current penalty for driving a motorbike at a speed exceeding the allowed speed, lLawyer Hoang Van Huong, Hanoi Bar Association, said that Decree 46/2016 on administrative penalties for violations of road and railway traffic specifically stipulates the penalty for exceeding the maximum speed limit for motorbikes. Article 6 on penalties for drivers and passengers of motorbikes, mopeds (including electric motorbikes), motorbike-like vehicles and motorbike-like vehicles violating road traffic rules.
Specifically, a fine of 100,000 - 200,000 VND will be imposed for driving a vehicle at a speed exceeding the prescribed speed limit from 5 km/h to under 10 km/h; a fine of 500,000 - 1 million VND will be imposed for driving a vehicle at a speed exceeding the prescribed speed limit from 10 km/h to 20 km/h.
Notably, the fine will increase from 3 to 4 million VND for drivers who violate the speed limit by driving more than 20 km/h.
In addition to being fined, drivers who commit violations will also be subject to additional penalties such as having their driver's license revoked for 1 to 3 months.
