In response to numerous questions from road users regarding the current penalties for speeding on motorcycles,According to lawyer Hoang Van Huong from the Hanoi Bar Association, Decree 46/2016 on administrative penalties for traffic violations on roads and railways specifically stipulates the penalties for exceeding the maximum permitted speed for motorcycles. Article 6 deals with penalties for drivers and passengers of motorcycles, mopeds (including electric motorcycles), and similar types of vehicles who violate road traffic rules.
Specifically, a fine of 100,000 - 200,000 VND will be imposed for driving at a speed exceeding the regulated limit by 5 km/h to less than 10 km/h; a fine of 500,000 - 1,000,000 VND will be imposed on drivers exceeding the regulated speed limit by 10 km/h to 20 km/h.
Notably, the fine will be significantly increased from 3 to 4 million VND for drivers who violate the speed limit by more than 20 km/h.
In addition to being fined, drivers who commit violations may also face supplementary penalties, including the suspension of their driver's license for 1 to 3 months.
