(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of February 29th (the 20th day of the first lunar month of the Year of the Dragon), the opening ceremony of the 2024 Quả Sơn Temple Festival was held in Bồi Sơn commune, Đô Lương district.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from various departments, agencies, and the Do Luong district, along with a large number of people from all over the country.

Earlier, on the evening of February 28th, a ceremony was held to pay respects to Uy Minh King Ly Nhat Quang. The ceremony was conducted according to ancient traditions to express profound gratitude to Uy Minh King Ly Nhat Quang for his contributions to protecting the nation and its people.

Uy Minh Vương Lý Nhật Quang was the eighth son of King Lý Công Uẩn. In 1039, his father entrusted him with governing the Hoan Châu region. With his exceptional intelligence and talent, in 1044 he was promoted from Marquis to Prince. During his tenure, he was instrumental in repelling foreign invaders, expanding the territory, and developing the Hoan Châu region into a prosperous area.

In 1057, Uy Minh Vuong – Ly Nhat Quang passed away and was canonized at the foot of Qua Mountain, in Boi Son commune, Do Luong district. Having served as the Governor of Nghe An for 16 years, his great contributions and achievements led to the construction of numerous temples in his honor by the people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces after his death. The main temple is the Qua Son Temple today.

Every year, the anniversary of his death is celebrated on the 17th day of the 12th lunar month, and the Quả Sơn Temple Festival takes place from the 18th to the 20th day of the 1st lunar month.

In December 1998, Quả Sơn Temple was recognized as a National Historical Monument. In 2019, the Quả Sơn Temple Festival was included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

In a solemn atmosphere, Comrade Hoang Van Hiep – Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Do Luong District – beat the drum to officially open the Qua Son Temple Festival.

Following the ceremony, delegates and citizens offered incense at the temple of Uy Minh Vương Lý Nhật Quang. Immediately afterwards, a spirited military parade took place in the temple courtyard and on the Lam River.

Along with the procession by land and water, people and tourists from many places followed the procession of the deity Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang to give thanks to Ba But at Ba But Temple.

At Ba But Pagoda, delegates and people escorted Uy Minh Vuong Ly Nhat Quang and the offerings to the courtyard for a thanksgiving ceremony. Following the thanksgiving ceremony was the procession to welcome the sacred cross back to the palace, the procession returned to Qua Son Temple and held the enthronement ceremony.
