Early-season cucumbers are fetching good prices.

Luu Son commune, a commune with a long tradition of vegetable production, has now planted nearly 70 hectares of crops. This includes 24 hectares of green beans, 22 hectares of gourds, 5 hectares of green squash, 3 hectares of cucumbers, 4.8 hectares of sweet potatoes, and 11 hectares of other vegetables.

This cultivated area is concentrated in the hamlets of Hong Phong, Phu Tho, Dien Bien, and Quang Trung. Hong Phong hamlet alone has the largest area, reaching 21 hectares, and has already yielded a harvest.

These days, in the early mornings, farmers throughout Do Luong district are rushing to the fields to harvest vegetables in time for the morning market. After the rain and floods, vegetable prices are rising, especially cucumbers, gourd shoots, sweet potatoes, and some other short-term crops.

a
Cucumbers and gourds are high-income crops during the winter season.

A bunch of gourd leaves costs 10,000 - 12,000 VND, sweet potato leaves cost 10,000 VND/kg... On average, each household earns 200,000 - 300,000 VND per morning from harvesting and selling produce. Each plot of land planted with winter vegetables costs 1 million VND, including expenses such as trellises for climbing plants, seeds, and fertilizer. In return, farmers earn approximately 7-12 million VND per plot. Thus, 1 hectare of winter crops yields over 100 million VND.

a
The villagers were delighted to take their vegetables to the market.

In addition, farmers regularly intercrop different types of vegetables such as cucumbers, beans, zucchini, pumpkins, and winter squash.

According to the experience of the local people, when preparing the land, large, high mounds must be created to prevent waterlogging, and the drainage ditches must be wide and large. When there is heavy rain, it is necessary to go to the fields to check and drain the water promptly.
