The Central Steering Committee worked with the Steering Committee for the 2026 National Economic Census in Nghe An province.

On the afternoon of April 16th, the Central Steering Committee, led by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Duong - Deputy Director of the General Statistics Office, held a working session with the Steering Committee for the 2026 Economic Census in Nghe An province to assess and expedite the progress of the task.

Working with the delegation were the Head of Provincial Statistics, Phan Truong Son - Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Steering Committee for the 2026 Economic Census, and leaders of relevant departments and agencies.

The Economic Census is one of three national statistical censuses, conducted every five years, aimed at collecting comprehensive information on businesses, household businesses, public service units, associations, and religious and belief establishments.

In the context of the whole country accelerating digital transformation, data collected from the General Census will be an important foundation to help ministries, sectors, and localities accurately assess the current situation, identify trends, and build appropriate development policies for each economic sector, region, and industry.

According to the report of the Steering Committee for the 2026 Economic Census in Nghe An province, Nghe An has successfully implemented all aspects of the census, from organization and direction; selection of personnel; training; propaganda; information collection; inspection and supervision at all levels; data verification and completion; and results acceptance. As a result, the first phase of the 2026 economic census in the province has been completed on schedule.

By March 10th, Nghe An province had completed 100% of the survey questionnaires for phase 1, including: 151,706 individual production and business establishments; 686 religious and belief establishments; and 20 cooperatives, contributing to improving the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of survey data in the province.

For phase 2, the entire province has 21,103 businesses subject to investigation. As of April 16th, 9,571 businesses had completed the survey (47.04%). In addition, 55 out of 56 non-public service units have completed their declarations (98.21%); and 126 out of 127 associations, federations, and non-governmental organizations have completed their declarations (99.21%).

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Director of the General Statistics Office Nguyen Thanh Duong requested Nghe An province to strengthen leadership and guidance in implementing tasks according to the adjusted plan; and at the same time, proactively allocate and mobilize sufficient resources to organize and complete the 2026 General Economic Census in the province, ensuring progress and timeliness.

Nghe An also needs to focus on checking, verifying, and cleaning up data. For phase 1, focus on in-depth checking and handling of incorrect economic sector codes, labor errors, revenue errors, and information on revenue and expenditure of administrative and public service units and agencies, if any. Compare with data from the 2021 General Economic Census to detect inconsistencies in the figures.

Compare the aggregated data with administrative data sources in the area to control the accuracy of the collected data, ensuring it accurately reflects the local reality and completing the data verification and cleaning process for phase 1 on schedule.

For phase 2, investigators and supervisors focus on checking, reviewing, and processing data, cleaning it up right from the collection process, ensuring the data is accurate, complete, and consistent. They make full use of administrative data sources such as tax management data and business registration data to compare and control the quality of collected data.

Conduct in-depth data verification and aggregate data analysis to check the survey results, ensuring accuracy and reliability for timely publication. Local data cleaning and verification must be completed before May 15, 2026.

Immediately after the results of the 2026 General Economic Census were released, Deputy Director of the Statistics Department Nguyen Thanh Duong requested Nghe An province to prepare a report on the survey results in the area to accurately assess the current economic situation.

The province also needs to analyze data to conduct an in-depth assessment of the economic structure in the area, as a basis for formulating breakthrough policies for economic development, as well as identifying weaknesses to overcome; and to develop socio-economic development plans and strategies for the period 2026-2030.
