(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of March 26th, at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi, the Vietnam Musicians Association and the family held the funeral ceremony for musician Hong Dang. A delegation from the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, led by Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, paid their respects to musician Hong Dang.

Also present were representatives from the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Department of Tourism; and leaders of Yen Thanh district.

Offering incense in remembrance of composer Hong Dang, the delegates expressed their respect and sorrow for the talented musician who made many important contributions to the country's modern music and was an outstanding son of Yen Thanh, Nghe An province.

Offering condolences to the family of the composer at the funeral, Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung and members of the Nghe An provincial delegation expressed that the passing of composer Hong Dang is not only a loss for his family but also a loss for his homeland and the national music scene. They hoped the family would overcome their grief to properly handle the funeral arrangements and fulfill the composer's last wishes.

Composer Hong Dang, whose birth name was Phan Dang Hong, was born on January 1, 1936, in Hoa Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province, into a prominent intellectual family. He was the nephew of the revolutionary Phan Dang Luu.

He showed musical talent from a young age. He taught himself and composed songs when he was just over 10 years old. He was also one of the first students of the Vietnam School of Music (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music).

Throughout his artistic career, composer Hong Dang left behind a substantial musical legacy of approximately 700 works in various genres, including songs, choral pieces, musical scenes, instrumental music, film scores, and stage music. Notably, he composed music for over 70 films, including famous theme songs such as "Hoa Sua" (from the film "Hanoi in the Bird Nesting Season") and "Bien Hat Chieu Nay" (from many films about the sea).

Composer Hong Dang also held many positions such as: Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Musicians Association for the 4th, 5th, and 6th terms (from 1989 - 2005); Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Music Magazine.

For his creative contributions to music, composer Hong Dang was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts of Vietnam; the First Class Labor Medal; and the Grand Prize "Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Hanoi".

He passed away at 5:30 AM on March 21, 2022 (corresponding to the 19th day of the 2nd lunar month of the Year of the Tiger) at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Hospital, at the age of 87.

After the funeral, the musician will be buried at Thien Duc Cemetery, Phu Ninh - Phu Tho province.
