(Baonghean.vn) - At noon on March 26, at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, the Vietnam Musicians Association and the family held the funeral of musician Hong Dang. The delegation of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province led by comrade Nguyen Duc Trung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee visited musician Hong Dang.

Also visiting were representatives of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; and leaders of Yen Thanh district.

Offering incense in memory of musician Hong Dang, delegates expressed their respect and condolences to the talented musician, who made many important contributions to the country's modern music and was an outstanding son of his hometown Yen Thanh, Nghe An.

Expressing condolences to the musician's family at the funeral, comrade Nguyen Duc Trung and members of the Nghe An provincial delegation expressed that the passing of musician Hong Dang is not only a loss for the family but also a loss for the homeland and the country's music industry. They hope that the family will overcome the pain to take care of the funeral and carry out the musician's wishes.

Musician Hong Dang's birth name is Phan Dang Hong, born on January 1, 1936 in Hoa Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Nghe An province in a typical intellectual family. He is the nephew of revolutionary senior Phan Dang Luu.

He showed his musical talent in his youth. He taught himself and composed songs when he was just over 10 years old. He was also one of the first students of the Vietnam Music School (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music).

During his artistic career, musician Hong Dang left behind a rather large musical legacy of about 700 works with many different genres such as: songs, choirs, operas, instrumental music, film music, stage music... In particular, he composed music for more than 70 films, including famous film soundtracks such as: Milk Flower (film Hanoi in the season of birds making nests), The sea sings this afternoon (many films about the sea)...

Musician Hong Dang also held many positions such as: Deputy General Secretary of the Vietnam Musicians Association, terms IV, V, VI (from 1989 - 2005); Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Music Magazine.

With his creativity and dedication to music, musician Hong Dang was awarded the State Prize for Vietnamese Literature and Arts; First Class Labor Medal; and the Grand Prize “Bui Xuan Phai - For the Love of Hanoi”.

He breathed his last at 5:30 a.m. on March 21, 2022 (February 19, Nham Dan year) at the Vietnam-Soviet Friendship Hospital, at the age of 87.

After the funeral, the musician will be buried at Thien Duc Cemetery, Phu Ninh - Phu Tho province.
