Thai businesses invest over $228 million in Nghe An.

(Baonghean.vn) - This information was provided by the leaders of the Nghe An Department of Foreign Affairs during their participation in the 22nd Preparatory Conference of the Association of 9 Provinces of 3 Countries (Vietnam - Laos - Thailand) using Highway 8 and Highway 12 (APOTC) held in Nakhon Phanom Province, Kingdom of Thailand.

The conference was attended by delegations from 9 provinces of 3 countries (Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand) using Highway 8 and Highway 12 (3 Vietnamese provinces: Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Binh; 2 Lao provinces: Bolikhamsai and Khammouane; 4 Thai provinces: Nakhon Phanom, Nong Khai, Sakhon Nakhon, and Bung Kan) to prepare the necessary conditions and content for the successful organization of the 22nd APOTC Summit, which will be held in Ha Tinh province in the near future.

In his opening remarks at the conference, Mr. Langsankham Philanom, Deputy Governor of Nakhon Phanom Province, highly appreciated the cooperation among localities, which has contributed to enhancing the friendly cooperative relationship between the three countries. He also affirmed that they will cooperate more closely and effectively to jointly promote the socio-economic development of each province and the entire region, contributing to the building of a prosperous ASEAN community.

On behalf of the Nghe An provincial delegation, the Director of the Nghe An Department of Foreign Affairs, Nguyen Hai Duong, announced the results of the implementation of the commitments in the Minutes of the 21st APOTC Summit of Nghe An province.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, Nghe An province received 15 students and 5 officials to study Vietnamese, 17 undergraduate students and 1 official to pursue a master's degree for Bolikhamsai province, and 1 student to transfer from college to university; it also received 15 students to study Vietnamese and 10 undergraduate students for Khammouane province.

Nghe An has strengthened cooperation with tourism businesses in Laos and Thailand to effectively exploit the tourist route from Nghe An to Xieng Khouang - Luang Prabang - Vientiane and the route to Bolikhamsai, Khammouane (Laos), and the northeastern provinces of Thailand.

In the first five months of 2019, Nghe An's total import and export turnover with Thailand reached 60.7 million USD, and with Laos reached 15.43 million USD.

Currently, 90 businesses from Nghe An province are directly investing and operating in the provinces of Laos with a total investment capital of approximately 200 million USD, and there are 12 foreign direct investment projects from Thailand operating in Nghe An with a total registered capital of 228.21 million USD.

"In the coming time, Nghe An hopes to continue exchanging and cooperating with provinces of the APOTC Association; thereby promoting investment, tourism, trade, production, and business to develop the socio-economic development of each province and the Association as a whole, contributing to building a peaceful and prosperous ASEAN community," the Director of the Nghe An Department of Foreign Affairs affirmed at the conference.
