Seeing that his brother didn't attend his grandson's one-month celebration, Bui Van Thuan went to his house with a knife to ask why. When his brother replied that he was busy, Thuan stabbed him to death on the spot.

On December 30th, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a trial to hear the case against defendant Bui Van Thuan (born in 1964), residing in Vien Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district.murderThe victim in this case is the defendant's brother – Mr. Bui Van H. (born in 1950).

According to the indictment, on the evening of May 13, 2024, Thuan's family held a one-month celebration for their grandson. After the party, Thuan didn't see Mr. H., so he rode his motorbike to his brother's house to inquire about him. Before entering his brother's house, Thuan opened the motorbike's trunk, took out a sharp knife, and tucked it behind his waistband.

Seeing his brother lying in a hammock in front of the house, Thuan asked why he hadn't come to the baby's one-month celebration. When Mr. H. replied that he was busy, Thuan thought his brother was disrespecting his family, so he pulled out a knife and stabbed Mr. H. multiple times in the face, shoulders, neck, and chest.

At that moment, Mr. H.'s granddaughter, who was washing dishes, witnessed the incident and ran to a neighbor's house to call for help. Immediately afterward, two neighbors, Mr. Nguyen Vinh B. (born in 1956) and Ms. Bui Thi Th. (born in 1980), rushed over.

Seeing Thuan holding a knife, Ms. Th. ran over, grabbed his shirt and pulled him away, but he stabbed her in the back. Mr. B. came to intervene but Thuan also stabbed him in the abdomen.

Afterward, Thuan returned and saw Mr. H. sitting on the hammock, so he ran over and stabbed him multiple times. As a result, Mr. Bui Van H. died on the spot. The cause of death was circulatory and respiratory failure due to wounds that punctured the heart and lungs.

As for the perpetrator, after committing the crime, Bui Van Thuan fled to Nghia Dan district (Nghe An province). He was arrested by the police in the early hours of the following morning.

Standing before the witness stand, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant stated that he went to his brother's house to confront him because he was angry that his brother did not attend his nephew's one-month birthday party.

"When my uncle said, 'I'm too busy to come, you handle the guests yourself,' I, in a fit of anger, stabbed my brother," the defendant confessed to stabbing him but couldn't remember how many times.

In the presence of the victim's legal representatives and numerous relatives, siblings, and children, the defendant bowed his head and offered his apologies.

The legal representatives of the victims attended the trial and requested the panel of judges to handle the defendant according to the law. The other two victims submitted petitions requesting a reduced sentence for the defendant.

The court determined that the defendant's actions constituted murder. In this case, the defendant's commitment to carrying out the crime to the end is an aggravating circumstance. However, mitigating circumstances such as honest confession, family efforts to compensate the two victims, and the defendant's participation in the war to defend the country should also be considered.

After a comprehensive review of the case, the court sentenced Bui Van Thuan to life imprisonment for murder. Regarding the civil aspect, since the two parties reached a mutual agreement, the court did not consider it.
