Despite this being a world-level tournament, Duy Nhat and his teammates had to cover their own expenses to participate. Besides Duy Nhat, female martial artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc also performed excellently in the women's 48 kg weight class, reaching the final.

With his championship title in Thailand, Duy Nhat had a promising start to a challenging 2017. The biggest goal for this young man from Lam Dong is the gold medal at the 29th SEA Games.

Despite winning championships in various competitions, he has yet to reach the top of the podium at the Southeast Asian Games. In both the 25th SEA Games in 2009 and the 27th SEA Games in 2013, Duy Nhất failed due to unfair refereeing decisions.

Muay Thai is included in the medal competition program at the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia, and Duy Nhat is determined to win the top spot. This could be his last SEA Games as he is already 28 years old.
